if it feels good
I sit here sipping hot blueberry tea
sunlight streaming through the blinds
and jambalaya simmering on the stove
I'm stuck in the sixties,
the love generation, my generation
when if it felt good we did it
the bloody truth of it was
we never wondered if it was right
all that seemed to matter was the thrill
is it possible we got it wrong
I say we should've asked instead
does it feel right
and if it does do it
embrace it with your loving touch
sunlight streaming through the blinds
and jambalaya simmering on the stove
I'm stuck in the sixties,
the love generation, my generation
when if it felt good we did it
the bloody truth of it was
we never wondered if it was right
all that seemed to matter was the thrill
is it possible we got it wrong
I say we should've asked instead
does it feel right
and if it does do it
embrace it with your loving touch

Women "of your era," like you and Barbara Streisand. Those are strong and beautiful women today from your sweet love for free love era. My man, born in the mid-sixties cut his teeth on the music and dance of your peers. ❤️🙏
Thanks for that. Women of my era admire the role models of yours. 😎🌹

Yes, I agree, lovey. Loving and giving love are the most beautiful things in the world. I can't argue that. The poem was built on a passing thought and I am not overly concerned one way or another. My purpose was to show the difference between going one thing or the other. Thank you for your feedback. I enjoyed it a lot.

Re. if it feels good
Being on the heels of the 60's, I don't think you got it wrong at all! On the contrary; I think you got it right, and there's an entire generation out there who is successful ( despite being calling dirty hippies ), and experienced something the majority never will. I was alive in the 60's, but too young to get out and truly enjoy it! Don't think we didn't carry some over into the early 70's! We most certainly did!
Curious, did you attend Woodstock?! ( I will hate you if you say yes! ) And have you ever heard the song, "The Dirty F*cking Hippies Were Right?"

Thank you for your wonderful remarks! As much as I would love to be able to say I was actually at Woodstock, I only watched it in the movie theatre while the smell of pot moved heavily through the air. There were so many hippies smoking it that management could not control what was happening. As for the song you mentioned, I have never heard it but will surely look into it. Yes, the sixties were an exciting time to be alive. The music was phenomenal and the beads and faded jeans were cool. I loved the concept of spreading love like we did and I still do. Thanks again for reading and responding to my poem.

Lucky you to have lived in San Francisco! Yes, that is where I longed to be living in some commune, of course having a very non-materialistic life singing songs of joy and peace! Oh, the sixties! A part of me is still stuck there and I suspect that it always will be. Thank you for responding to my work. I appreciate it.

In some ways we are re-living the sixties-civil rights, racism, political corruption. We should have left those behind and kept the love.
Most of what felt good then was because of the positive intent.
From one ‘boomer’ to another, nice spill.

Thank you so much for your wonderful remarks. I agree with your response. Yes, there was a true sense of positivity back in the day. We embraced love and peace! I still hold on in my own positivity though done days it is easier than other days. I just wish people would stop the hating and give peace a chance.
