The Outline of My Lover

I used to dream in black and white but now I dream in color
It used to be that every cloud hid it's silver lining behind shadows
But now even the darkest of clouds expose the outline of my lover
While pain has died in a silver noose that dangles from my gallows

I have waited all my life for a light to shine where none had ever shown
To warm my heart by a fireplace glowing from the embers of my soul
They'd grown so cold I was sure that I had not learned all that I've known
That snow flakes on my heart concealed nothing more than an empty hole

I was lonely in ways that fooled the fools who never knew me
And the ones who did could not see the cloud that had no lining
For hidden inside me was a man who could not set the darkness free
Embracing emptiness to form delusion's fog of grand designing

At first you tried to shatter myths I had molded into gods
Who would not show the silver that could expose you as my other
Till darkness painted a rainbow from gold blinding my demigods
In lonely times I dreamt in black and white but now I dream in color
