“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry
about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matt. 6:34 NIV
to live in your past
is to fall asleep
in the arms
of the shadows
of yesterday.
it may be your last,
if you stop to weep
for the charms
and the ados
long passed away.
a vain future life
is a dream unreal,
for the sun
cannot hallow
longed-after morns.
don’t lean on a knife:
it cannot unveil
what the guns
of tomorrow
might leave forlorn.
thirst after today,
while the blood runs hot
in the veins
of compassion
and humble pride.
turn never away
from the poor man’s lot,
when the reigns
of attrition
with him collide.
give bread to the starved;
quench the thirst of those
needing drink;
find the lonely,
and lift them high.
thus you will have carved
true love, to repose
from the brink
souls left only
to yearn and die.
