Retribution
Unfettered urges
not satiated
always vexing
never abated
Overflow of blood
alcoholic veins
despite purge
affliction remains
Troubled, tormented
wretched plight
wings of shame
taking flight
Bound to guilt
the deeds done
no annulment
self-inflicted shun
Alone, isolated
penance assigned
chained evermore
fate resigned
not satiated
always vexing
never abated
Overflow of blood
alcoholic veins
despite purge
affliction remains
Troubled, tormented
wretched plight
wings of shame
taking flight
Bound to guilt
the deeds done
no annulment
self-inflicted shun
Alone, isolated
penance assigned
chained evermore
fate resigned

I know the world can seem a cruel place, Mel, especially regarding addiction. You've penned it perfectly, capturing the essence of loss and shame. I only wish addicts didn't have to feel this way, but I also understand it's part of the process to recovery.
You have been missed, and it's wonderful to see you back. xo

I thank you as always Ahavati. Addiction truly takes its toll. However, it is possible to live happily in recovery...I have seen it, just need to get it!
Much love dear friend:)

Such a lovely piece, and can be so helpful to others that may be afflicted.
I pray for your strength and recovery.
This line especially touched me.
"Alone, isolated
penance assigned
chained evermore
fate resigned"
Matthew 26:41
41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Psalm 116:16 - Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains

Glad to see you are still writing, Mel.
You could remove
"to be" from Line 2
"in" from Line 6
"Bound to guilt"
says so much that next you could simply say
"the deeds are done"
All these suggestions might bring these lines up to speed with the rest of the poem that overall reads very swiftly.
