Reading At Table As Breakfast Goes Cold
( a Sonnet )
The early morning’s summer drone,
While reading, has me drift and drowse.
With heat distressing nerve and bone,
I must decline my eggs, and browse.
I sip the oranges of the groves
Which from the glass I feel its breeze,
To graze my hair that slightly moves
And cools the neckline by degrees.
And past the window lies the lake
Where long ago, far back in time,
A tiny girl would kneel and slake
Her thirst for mysteries sublime.
Then comes a moment showers fall,
It doesn’t seem like Spring at all.
The early morning’s summer drone,
While reading, has me drift and drowse.
With heat distressing nerve and bone,
I must decline my eggs, and browse.
I sip the oranges of the groves
Which from the glass I feel its breeze,
To graze my hair that slightly moves
And cools the neckline by degrees.
And past the window lies the lake
Where long ago, far back in time,
A tiny girl would kneel and slake
Her thirst for mysteries sublime.
Then comes a moment showers fall,
It doesn’t seem like Spring at all.

I found this a beautiful sonnet with a lovely touch of bouncing child-like flavourful wording. :))

Oh my goodness, thank you so much, dear Josh. Such a delightful reception to my ink. You’ve picked up on exactly /some/ of what I felt as I composed. Wonderful connection.

Beautiful Jadey!
I just loved that first stanza, beautifully worded.
Very nice, as usual!
Love,
Bad Puppy.

Thank you, dear Jarlath. Mmm, Doesn’t that sound wonderful right about now?

Beautifully written, rhymed and warming to the heart. I read this during a downpour around L.A. and it made me forget the rain.

Oh my goodness, dear friend, isn’t it almost magical the way a verse casts it spell on a reader? It did to me even as I composed it.
And thank you so much for the RL honor.

This is so beautiful ... there is nothing like viewing the world from a childs eye ... something I try not to lose touch of ..

Oh yes, dear Je’, you are so right. I’m grateful for many of my childhood memories still intact, and so in touch with them.
Thank you for your thoughtful words.
