POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I've been a journalist and (unpublished) novelist, but writing poetry is a relatively new experience . I'd like to make some friends and get advice and feedback.
Noir to the Bone
Love me when I'm on the run
Love me when I bleed
Love me when I pack a gun
And love me for my seed
You have nothing left to fear
As we take life on the fly
I wipe away your crimson tear
You're too beautiful to die
Love me when I bleed
Love me when I pack a gun
And love me for my seed
You have nothing left to fear
As we take life on the fly
I wipe away your crimson tear
You're too beautiful to die

Baby Wears Black
She came to my gravesite yesterday morn
Wearing black leather 'neath lowering clouds
She stood alone, raining her tears
Far from the city and maddening crowds
I could hear her whisper my name
Then the lilt of her farewell song
Reminiscent of our shared bygone days
And those nights when I did her wrong
But she is the one I truly did love
And held to my deeply scarred chest
She adds one more flower to my modest stone
And leaves me, at last, to unquiet rest
Wearing black leather 'neath lowering clouds
She stood alone, raining her tears
Far from the city and maddening crowds
I could hear her whisper my name
Then the lilt of her farewell song
Reminiscent of our shared bygone days
And those nights when I did her wrong
But she is the one I truly did love
And held to my deeply scarred chest
She adds one more flower to my modest stone
And leaves me, at last, to unquiet rest

Too Long Gone
Too long gone
A personal, gaping void
So much to say
So many words
Drifting on the bitter smoke
His ill luck thrives
Seems here to stay
And catastrophes abound
The wind blowing him to breakage
The crack of rust resounds
He still whispers to the wind
"Enough. I will prevail.
I have wavered. I have sinned.
But take heed: I will not fail."

Companion
I can hear her in the rain
A lullaby, a sweet refrain
A lover from the distant past
A lover never born to last
She is here to comfort me
Bring some solace, set me free
She believes that I was born to live
Bestow what I have to give
I accept my coming life
Be it dark, replete with strife
Her warm whisper in my ear
Tells me that I have naught to fear
Her presence will never fade
But protect me in the evening shade
Hold my hand all through the night
A companion in the morning light.

Short Supply
Not enough to go around
Necessities sold by the pound
Certain foods in short supply
Snatched from the shelves, why even try?
The virus is the cause to horde
Paper products, praise the Lord!
He might grant some sweet relief
And end this journey into grief
Until then madness reigns supreme
And life becomes a fever dream
Or nightmare as the case may be
Not subject to a lost soul's plea.

Fit to Kill
He left her waiting on the beach
The foaming tide just out of reach
It is here she realized
That he was not the man she prized
She still waited for his quick return
Developing a slight sunburn
She built castles in the sand
Too fragile to take a stand
She took a wade beneath the pier
Knowing it was very clear
That she had finally had her fill
And he was only fit to kill
She caught him in his ornate bath
Taught him her fury, and her wrath
Submerged his head down near the drain
Ebbing rage, and going...

Christine
Eric's protégé Christine
Follows him deep underground
She marvels at the darkened scene
And is enchanted by his organ's sound
She is willingly seduced
Allows him to retain his mask
Her doubts are few, and reduced
So all he has to do is ask
Christine feels his charisma
Lies back on the ornate bed
She ignores the miasma
In this world of the dead
When he finally reveals his face
She sees the ugliness laid bare
But she appreciates his grace
And remains within this hidden lair.

Reflection
She wipes the steam off of the mirror
And reflects upon her day
Her beauty is really all too clear
And she prays it's here to stay
But she knows her looks won't last
And eventually will fade
Aging is the true forecast
And will come despite her aid
She still applies the eyeliner
And subtle shade upon her lips
She then leaves for Pat's Diner
And will receive abundant tips.

Dawn
I sit here and watch the tide
Along the midnight beach
I feel the longing deep inside
But death seems out of reach
My mind is cloaked in darkened shades
The shadows of my soul
My lust for life too quickly fades
As I watch the waters roll
But the dawn finally appears
And my dismal thoughts take flight
No more dread and hidden fears
Gone with the morning light.

Her Comfort
His sanity quivers
And pulse rate quickens
Blood pressure goes astronomical
A panic attack looms
The strident feeling of doom
Deep breathing?
He just tends to pant
Visualization?
Nightmare images spring to mind
Leaving other thoughts behind
But his seraph is there to comfort him
Lure him off the fragile limb
His fear of death begins to fade
And drift into the evening shade.

Presence
Invisibly she follows me
I sense her presence on the wind
She is not one that I can see
But she whispers that I have sinned
She was my lover, now deceased
Still present wherever I may roam
My guilt is palpably increased
I tremble when I reach my home
She denounces me as a thief
A liar to the very last
A man who is a source of grief
A villain through my lengthy past
I know not why she once remained
Perhaps to spot clean my wicked ways
But she realized my soul was stained
And could be through my...

In Bloom
To flowergirl
Flower fills me with delight
I read her through a troubled night
She inspires me with purple luv
And I thank the Lord above
She writes with a gentle flow
Leaving warmth, an afterglow
Her luv is generosity
Forget about ferocity
I possess a darkened attitude
So she has my gratitude
I am one inclined to brood
But reading her brightens my mood.
