MUSE
Each writer born must have a muse,
Or so I’m told, for if they do,
And if they should, do they know how
To let it in or haven’t found
A way to hear it whispering
Like mine, who tells me everything,
And always watches after me
To heed the way I ramble free.
For years before I touched a pen,
It’s always loved the little wren
That plays, and sees me in this way,
Both in the dark and light of day.
And when I don’t know what to say,
It doesn’t coddle me per se.
In fact the muse is very wise
Unlike myself when I surmise,
And get in trouble; to the point,
For when it sees I’m out of joint
It doesn’t wear dark robes to judge
Or let’s me hang, it doesn’t budge.
And never does it find me dull,
To serve a life without a lull;
This poet’s mind is very full
And that’s because the brain is mine.
No other like it will you find;
I never seek, or gravitate.
Just like the charge it motivates,
The muse is on my family tree;
A special branch some will agree.
For what it knows is every truth
Since time of birth & from my youth,
It doesn’t need to pull a tooth.
It doesn’t care for rational,
It loves me unconditional.
From rising moon to setting sun
The Muse, the Mind & I are One.
Or so I’m told, for if they do,
And if they should, do they know how
To let it in or haven’t found
A way to hear it whispering
Like mine, who tells me everything,
And always watches after me
To heed the way I ramble free.

Coincidentally, I just put up my own poem about a muse. She is both spirit, and flesh and blood.

Re: Re. MUSE
As is mine, that’s why the poem concludes with:
“It doesn’t care for rational,
It loves me unconditional.
From setting moon to rising sun
The Muse, the Mind & I are One.”
...because my muse is me.😊 As is the case for many.
I’ll head over to your poem shortly to check yours out. I’m just a little bogged down at present because of the HUGE storm front that’s been pouring down relentlessly since last night. In fact, I haven’t slept a wink due to the weather. Right now the local news is showing many areas are being flooded including where I live, with sections of streets & freeways shut down due to mudslides. Need I say the burn areas are in it deep with flooding & mudslides. And this will be the situation all day.
Meantime, I want to thank you for the RL honor.

Great entry for the comp (& now I understand a true meaning of Three-in-One and One-in-Three, too)

Thank you so much, Josh.
Really? And what does it mean in this case (being about my poem)? Curious.

From the last line of the poem
"The Muse, the Mind & I are One."
a preferable alternative to the off-planet God of 'Father, Son & Holy Ghost'.

Aaah ha, oh yes, it makes perfect sense now. Thanks for explaining, I never would have guessed. And I /love/ the comparison. I loved that line once I slide into home plate with it; capping the piece seamlessly.

Very enjoyable write. I guess we do all have a muse. Mine is human and although she probably doesn't know it she is the reason I write at all.

The Muse is in your mind and soul, and you reveal her stellar guidance in your writing. Her unconditional love probably does not preclude giving some sound advice. You listen, and the result shines.

Most gracious thanks to you, dear Luna sister. And yes, the longer I’ve been writing, the more aligned I’ve become.
And it’s always been enlightening & an honor to be inspired as an entrant to join into your competitions.
Your themes bring out poetry in me that have me go places to express in ways I would not have realized, had I not been curious to be different.

The search for the Muse is always a quest .... but this poem is as expert as ever. You always take the reader on a journey, and your closing stanza ends in a peaceful realization of Truth. Thank you as always... for sharing your muse with us.

Thank you so very much, dear sister of the Pen. It flows through my very essence of life, and I’ve always followed the current.
