Angst
Life is not always fair
Sometimes it's easier to see the glass half empty
Each one of us possesses a different reality
Subtle nuance the difference to living a full life or just existing
Breathe in Breathe Out
One foot in front of the other
One man's mental breakdown another's bad hair day
Learnt at a mothers knee
You can't have everything in life
Be happy with what you have
However
If you have hope
If you have ever been loved by someone
If on your darkest day you have seen the sun

life, lust, love and loss
Angelina was the first; Cold, calculating and cruel
I was naive, in love; an idealistic, romantic fool
Jackie kindly helped to restore my faith and trust
taught me how to please with tongue and every thrust
Clare was sweet and shy; moonlit skinny-dips eased her fears
At 16 I moved away; we parted friends, both shedding tears
Time at college supposedly for 'education and reflection'
reality were parties, alcohol, girls and a constant erection
Enjoyable years spent spreading charm and instruction
My previous experiences meant a queue waiting...
I was naive, in love; an idealistic, romantic fool

My Prayer
may the road ahead be straight and true
the winds blow softly, caressing you
let the sun and moon light your way
guide you safely by night or day
through life's complex ups and downs
allow yourself to laugh more than frown
relax, enjoy life's rich tapestry
remember to be happy, strong and free
listen to your heart, spirit and soul
fly high, attain that goal
in your life story you are the star
independent, beautiful; you will go far.

Just a typo'
I am a heathen
so heaven or hell
holds no fears for me
no myths to dispel
geographically challenged
confusion to quell
I thought heaven was up
and down to hell
yet as I sit here
enraptured by life
the penny drops
and I forget my strife
is Heaven a place on earth
OR MAYBE ... a person?
just a minor tweak
to letters and sound
head in a whirl
yet feet on the ground
lose the A and V
don't you see?
take the 'L' from love
... heaven's be!
H E L E N is the result
a present, a gift ...
so heaven or hell

Flight
Tie a bow around a bough
knot placed just so - not now?
Instead; inside my head
enough blood has been shed
fearing the worst; I've fled
slip the jetty; take the prow
silently dip the oar
movement... I know not how
belligerent bellowing below
soft strokes swiftly shift me south
to a safer stretch I know
calmer waters away from ....
certain death; I pause, catch my breath
flies feed on my fears
swarm around my still wet tears
as I flee from hurt so near
must put distance to get clear
water cleanses my...

Torn
I've been happy with my life
successful, comfortable
enjoyed with my wife
busy schedule; at 'full steam'
both working hard
building 'the dream'
Whoa! What just happened?
Met a woman; .... not my 'type'
mesmerising, hypnotising
I'm oh so smitten; undone
this woman is wild and free
a spirited creature, soulful;
confused, perplexed; is this me?
Yet I am fascinated, transfixed
living two lives side by side
both give pleasure in equal measure
each enjoying time spent with me
it cannot last; train wreck imminent ...

Dawn Raid on the Stock Exchange
Do your research, keep it quiet
spreadsheets done, check the yield
assets confirmed, risks calculated,
Chess pieces all in play
just a game; no-one gets hurt
feel the rush, feel the burn
after all it's only money.
Early bell, stock gobbled up
sharks feeding frenzy in suits
as my team hit their targets
majority stakeholding achieved
I am victorious in this fight
not a drop of blood in sight
I am the triumphant invader
I am the DawnRaider
Do your research, keep it quiet
spreadsheets done, check the yield

Friendship
For me friendship is walking hand in hand
sharing a moment, precious memories
beside you through it all; mutual support
when times are bad and things turn rough
I'll watch your back .... take the flak
Never shirk the duty of a true friend
when you are wrong or stupid
I'll be the first person to tell you so
yet I will defend your right to the death
to live your life anyway you choose
and yes ... I'll be there ...
a shoulder to cry on .... arms to comfort you
Why would I go through all this trouble and pain?
Because...

Empty rooms - part 1 Leaving
Sat here on a worn out carpet,
edges fraying out from the warp and weft.
Brighter paint on the walls where once
paintings hung or wardrobes stood,
indentations on the floor enjoy their freedom
…. if only very briefly.
Sounds below as burly men grunt and mutter
displeasure obvious to my ears as they struggle.
Heavy items loaded onto the small fleet of lorries
which wait patiently in the spring sunshine.
Neighbours peek out from behind curtains.
More adventurous types draw closer to get a better view.
Curious looks as they...

visit a beach, gaze out there.
shade your eyes; 1000 mile stare
feel my love cascade over you
iridescent waves of sparkling hue
even though I'm far away
keep safe; for this I pray
recall my words when lust bites
prowl by day, not the nights
