Telly trouble ; trendsetter TV
:) What kids are watching on telly
are crimes and crimes in all variety!
Heinous crimes of hate
Piteous crimes of passion
Carried out at shocking rate
thinking in some wild fashion
then ending up cell mates!
Or Crime with no rhyme
Or reason
Or crime for treason,
Crime never abates
Juveniles don't fear the prison.
When kids watch their movie heroes
shoot down people with the gun
they are incited to do the same
to achieve some thrill and fun.
When they see their very film star
slash someone's throat in a fit of anger
they think well of crimes of rage
and plunge everybody else into danger.
The tendency to portray the violent scene
luridly and shockingly on the Big Screen
Ah even for the small screen, tis the gory
that makes for the dark and thrilling story.
Now that technology's long opened this pandora's box
the dispersal of amplified social ills simply ain't no hoax
The rowdy hoodlums and reckless gangsters
are simply by-products of Tv influences
The world watches the thriving of the bully-boy pranksters
passively in helpless terror of their offences.
It's all portrayal of the vulgar, the obscene
by that devious , glamorous Silver Screen
For the spine tingling horror movie
though it may seem oh so groovy
begets the horrendous
and drills evil thoughts subliminally
into the subconscious!
It's an unrestrained dark faking
of real life reality exaggerating
Whether it's Bollywood in the East
or it's Hollywood in the West
they don't merely impart tactics of defence
but rather those of aggressive offence
Viewing those gruesome swashbuckling films
gives rise to morbid sadistic whims
Flipping through TV channels just ponder
if the telly's the perfect channel
of information is it a proper panel?
Dad always tells me, 'fear ye the roaches' flicking antennae?
While you oughtta fear the influence
of 'em' flickering images by dish antennae'.
Then a mere single merit that I dug
as I drank cappucino in my mug
that atleast one couldn't live in a bubble
daily watching the bubble-bug.
Ah but then tougher gun laws
couldn't halt even underage shooting sprees
Rather it's stringent scanning of Tv content
that might make it all cease
Parental supervision too tis gravely essential
Should've been of parental code quintessential
So the next time you catch your beloved teen
absorbed and engrossed while glued to the screen
Just sleuth a bit just to make sure
that for the x-rated he's not too keen!

nope,
it meant, those with vested interests
would waste no time calling you as such
for no thief likes being caught red-handed!
your poem does the work of a spotlight
on these inflictors in plain sight!

This was superb! Not many realize the psychological damage that Television can create. And though we have our freedom of speech and expression, we should temper that with morality. Especially those seeking to rear the next generation.
This was a fantastically written piece. Thank you for sharing :)

All too true, Zaynab, and what you describe is perpetrated and perpetuated on purpose by the evil society that deems to control. Yet, as an observer and someone raised on the horrors of mindstream mayhem I always was able to discriminate between right and wrong. That said, my boyhood games often emulated what I'd just seen on tv. Good job.

Ah u mean u were able to discriminate btw right n wrong yet your boyhood games emulated that on TV. You mean all in harmless Play right? Poets discern n act better right from childhood I tink. Thanx for your review. Cheers.

I have to say you are very observant. Through your words I seemed to see some news that I have watched on tv before. Glad you care about those things that have been almost happening somewhere every day around the world. Thank you for putting them into words to share on this site.

It's true. Ppl love drama and misery. They thrive on it. It's why I hate reality TV. I wouldn't necessarily blame it for the actions of anyone. Ppl should know right from wrong and it is important that parents teach morals and empathy. Thought provoking.

Re: Re. Telly trouble ; trendsetter TV
Hi, do u mean movies by reality TV? Because it's the movies which show far more bloody gore and violence than the news media. Such exaggerated knifing and killings in movies ah. Parents can teach but kids will also ape TV heroes. Warm thanx for your thoughts n comment. Take care.

Nice rite.........Our glorification of violence has been flourishing since multi-thousands of years before a TV ever got turned on. The "holy scriptures" of nearly all our established 'religions' are chock full of 'righteous' violence. It's scarier now because our hyper-intelligent, super-technology has catapulted the "instant gratification" from so many of our Sick sources & Our sick impulses.
But I may be wrong.
But I may be wrong.

Hmm thanx so much for your thoughts. When I read the bible it does seem so that violence and aggression were encouraged by Jesus but then it's not the original one as we believe the original bible has been altered and adulterated. As a Muslim I read the Quran and there I read of defence or revenge wars ONLY. So no aggressive righteous violence carried out by the holy prophet Muhammed (s.a.w) . Yet long after his death there were so called Muslims , the type we as Shias curse, who not only killed the prophets family yet went onto aggressive conquests elsewhere.
Hey and thanx for your intellectual phrasing of the "super tech, instant gratification part" , u put it so great.

Jezus never uttered a word of violence toward anyone or any other "belief".. However, no sooner was he dead than ihis followers & chronclers were declaring all kinds of words of idiotic (Christian soldiers marching as to war, 'neath the cross of Jesus)......" & blah, blah, bullshit blah........all for riches & control of thee 'body politik'...........All of our traditional "Beliefs" do Nothing other than perpetuate Our self-creation of unnecessary suffering.

"Now that technology has long opened this pandora's box" - that is what it has become.
But Bollywood is still a lot better than Hollyood, safer, more restricted, restrained, -- civilized.
Or at least it used to be.
I am so ashamed that the West has been the means for so much garbage to get pumped to the rest of the world !!
The USA did NOT have porn in the old days. I mean, it has all happened in the 1960s.
Censorship actually is quite normal and helpful. I hope your country still tries to combat porn and violent movies, violence for violence's sake.
America's supreme court should never have struck down law after law after
law against obscenity.
It wasn't the gov't legislatures that made
Porn legal. It was the g.d. court system.
Fortunately this experiment in legal porn, etc, will be replaced by a return to normalcy, thank God !!!

Thanx so very very much for your great honest n sincere thoughts on this. Bollywood is no good too since it is Hindu controlled and thus obscenity in all its sense has crept in swiftly. Wow USA no porn in the past eh, I always believe humans ways are devolving in many ways instead of evolving.
I don't know which country to call my own. I was born elsewhere and though India is my motherland I have never lived there so I can't call her much of a home country.
Oh I see they do strike down many moral laws nowadays ahhh.
Cheers n happy new yr.
