The bookend's embrace
Your mind, how it fascinates me,
Neurones a howling supernova
in the shadow of soil in your stare:
No darkness lingering there.
I lust at the dust caught in sunbeams:
running off with the heavy clunk of time,
carrying us into carbon and rust,
into that elderly, ageless earthly dust.
Oh life, it is hugged by darkness
Like my bookends embrace your stories:
A brief flame in a blanket of black,
while a secondhand turns us to ash.
Your mind, does it too sink to heady heights,
Just to delight in the madness of it all?
Neurones flashing in the silence of a cranium,
casting shadows, twisted and beautiful?
Or is there really no darkness
in your mind
at all?
Neurones a howling supernova
in the shadow of soil in your stare:
No darkness lingering there.
I lust at the dust caught in sunbeams:
running off with the heavy clunk of time,
carrying us into carbon and rust,
into that elderly, ageless earthly dust.
Oh life, it is hugged by darkness
Like my bookends embrace your stories:

I believe the site has gained another quality poetess, if she decides to stay around.
Well done this is.
Congratulations.

Hi, welcome. Reads to me like a tribute to an author from a collector of his books.
Just one oxymoron here, in this line - don't know if a word change may be in order:
"Your mind, does it too SINK to heady HEIGHTS"

Thank you for the welcome! Ah, you have an eagle eye. I actually did this intentionally - I was going for the dizzying feeling of soaring too high that one might feel as they swoop too low. But perhaps that isn't captured and it complicates the message. I will think about reworking. Thank you for the feedback :)

One could easily forget this is a work of introspection. Intellectually stimulating with vivid imagery makes this an outstanding read! Loved it start to finish!!!

Crikey this is really lovely. 'In the shadow of soil in your stare.' One of those lines that you can't help whispering over and over. I love 'hugged in darkness' too. Love all of it.
Beautiful from beginning to end.
