SOMETHING
I want to show you something
But there is nothing of the old lake left
Nothing of the neolithic river that ran to it
Nothing of a something
That seemed to lead to somewhere
Cut to
My father in his panama
The sunlight halo
His face in obscurity
Cut to
My ex-wife stepping down
To where neon flickers
We had made a child
Losing the baby unravelled us
Unmade all meaning
As if meaning was something
And something was needed
We made two children more
I felt unworthy of them all their lives
Terrified they'd find me out
And run off and join the one that got away
Cut to
The old lake's shadow
And the ochre cutting where the river left
Nothing but this thousand year story
About something
But there is nothing of the old lake left
Nothing of the neolithic river that ran to it
Nothing of a something
That seemed to lead to somewhere
Cut to
My father in his panama
The sunlight halo
His face in obscurity
Cut to

I felt unworthy of them all their lives
Terrified they'd find me out
And run off and join the one that got away
Cut to
The old lake's shadow
And the ochre cutting where the river left
Nothing but this thousand year story
About something

This is like poetry in the language of cinema, a fascinating technique, whale, and a chilling message.

that elusive something -
if we knew what it was
we might find it unbearable...
if we knew what it was
we might find it unbearable...

Re. SOMETHING
This one cuts to the core of Life, Brother. The scar that emptiness leaves, whether on the land or upon/inside ourselves shall never diminish in this experience. Once something flows out of itself it can never be pushed back - only refilled with SOMETHING different, something that feels like a suitcase filled with souvenirs.

Whenever we are forced to experience tragic events in our lives -- ones that cause deep pain....cause us to feel as if we have failed......ones that are beyond our control--we seem to search through all the" n o t h i n g " that is there, and all the " n o t h i n g", that is not--desperately seeking that " something " which will provide us with logical explanations.... (Unfortunately, this is a futile quest ).
Your fragmented ,flash-back mode of memories is so uniquely creative and effective! The pain in this piece is so palpable, the lesson taught impacts so many readers!
My friend, thank you for your shared wisdom

We all have the ruins of our past. What was and what is now and what might have been, in the middle of it all.

Re. SOMETHING
Such a beautiful, emotional and perfectly apportioned write. The vulnerability, the imagery, the artful glimpse into your life. Thank you for sharing this with us.
You're a very talented and intelligent poet. It has been interesting coming to understand you.

Re. SOMETHING
cut to
this old dead heart
a destitute place
where there is nothing
but here i am
lost somewhere in your words
feeling something
something very profound
thank you, brother, for sharing something
