The Ethereal Sojourners
Howls of unknown spirits sound
weaving through the old haunts
where men once jousted
and splashed their blood
upon the mossy cobblestones
fragrance pleasant in the air
caresses any passers by
enticing innocents to linger
to bask in forced tranquility
vanishing never to be seen again
but nights where evil visits
capering away until dawn sun
ghosts of those travellers
come forth to join the haunting
to beg of mortals for relief
freedom from curses to haunt
a meaningless domain of past hurts
set up on an old highway
unused and long forgotten
stumbled on by lost wanderers
from slumber I awake
hearing the howls
of the ghosts
receding into dreamland
beyond sleep.
