Thank you cold_fusion for your comp entry in part of the day's routine. I often have to double-check the door, too.

Thank you MysticalRose for an interesting set of 5 short-ones for the comp.

Random alliteration and lessons

Forget
Furies fallen fathers...
failed flickering flames..
furiously fight forthcoming formidable foes.

The
Truth told...
traverses..
times terrible tales.

Souls
Solemn sorrows...
sooth Satan’s satisfaction..
signalling serious savageries.

Woeful
Wearily watch...
warriors withering wrath..
wreak wretched wars.

Longing
Loves loss...
lies lifelessly..
less loves lessons lay learned.

City of Angels

Crenshaw and King
The city is bustling with many different faces,
As I drive by old memory lanes,
Crenshaw and King, the site of my first parade,
So much has changed and yet
Some things have stayed the same.

Exposition Park
The avenue is busy, traffic and people everywhere,
I forget how the city of angels can be,
With so many different people going about their way,
…hey, the new fútbol stadium looks nice,
I would have loved to catch a match with dad.

Shatto 39
After an hour or so of bowling with my sons,
We drive through the town once again,
Tents are set up along the busy boulevards,
Side street vendors are making a living,
Trying to live the American Dream.

The West Side
A few miles away on the west side of town,
As the sun is beginning to settle,
There are fewer people walking in the street,
They are going to temple, worship and tradition.
It almost feels like a different world.

The Drive Back Home
As I take the long drive back to my new town,
Leaving the busy freeways and high rises behind,
I remember growing up amid that hustle and bustle,
The different peoples, the melting pot, the crowded streets,
And in a way, I miss the city of angels.

Thank you to the 30 people who had a go at this comp. Judging it (with help) was insanely difficult but in the end ...
... Congratulations to Eerie for gaining this cup - the right mix of tight wording, thoughtful insights with an element of surprise.
There could have been 7 or 8 equally good runners-up so in the end decided to leave it as it is. Some of the individual 'shorties' were really wonderful, and there were some innovative approaches, but we felt Eerie sustained it the best throughout.
