Sacred Promise
Enchanting serenity,
still waters and babbling brooks,
a welcome for all,
yet not all are welcome.
For there is a war for the soul of poetry
and our love of vacuous beauty
A lovely woman walking by,
beguiling perfume scents the air,
yet reaching for this memory she disappears,
leaving nothing but empty air,
as if she was never there
Petals strewn upon the ground,
the aftermath of a poor flower's torture,
so lovely we forget, beauty
can be empty and cruel,
beauty without a heart is cold
just unending sadness hidden in a dream
Poems of pain and sorrow,
poems of nights' dark pleasures,
lost souls and broken hearts,
are the sharpened blades of my poetry,
that weep my blood and cry despair
lost with no direction home,
I come as refugee seeking peace.
Yet I give my promise to all,
that within my raw and awkward prose,
you will find the light of my spirit,
consecrated by sacred pledge,
I offer you my loving soul
still waters and babbling brooks,
a welcome for all,
yet not all are welcome.
For there is a war for the soul of poetry
and our love of vacuous beauty
A lovely woman walking by,
beguiling perfume scents the air,
yet reaching for this memory she disappears,
leaving nothing but empty air,
as if she was never there
Petals strewn upon the ground,

lost with no direction home,
I come as refugee seeking peace.
Yet I give my promise to all,
that within my raw and awkward prose,
you will find the light of my spirit,
consecrated by sacred pledge,
I offer you my loving soul

The folly of fear & the precariousness of dissatisfaction
...
Tell me
what is it like
when you're away
are you pseudo celebrating
with ironic plastic freedom
are you having pangs
of lust filled
'Ican'twaittotasteher-isms'
a waiting mechanism
full of pesky gnawing throes
that yearn luscious-ly fine
pulling upon a tendril's bows
clawing inside a mind whose
brilliance could be diamond shine
Tell me
what is it like
when you are gone
are you at ease
comfortable in your own skin
knowing that I'm here,
you are there
and that no matter where
I'll be the only one who sees
the beauty
of all your desperate decadence
and tumultuous raw sexiness;
hidden in plain sight
that subterfuge of might
wit beyond compare
the wry kind,
coated with that rarely found
charismatic flare
Tell Me
what is it like
to wonder
do you sit on your own
daydream
or write down
rare missing moments
inked in gorgeous poetic phrases
one's my own pen chases
left searing into tender places
or do you perhaps ponder
the cementing of our connection
a true bonded, bond
we, two unlikely misplaced souls
found within this most
unusual combination
where we are truly kindred perfection
in our 'two-united-weirdo's"
revelation
so...
what is it like?
Tell me
can you see it for yourself
that my heart
is closed up
locked away high up on a shelf
no, not from you
away from me
I unknowingly
or subconsciously,
somewhere along the way
hid myself
tucked 'me ' away
pouring my own charisma
into you and I
and our sort-of
warped enigma
of this, our protected bubble
engaging in such a display
that I knew my
fragile heart would be okay
hidden away so high,
up on that bullshit imaginary shelf
where the last thing
I would have to do was truly fly
Why then, didn't you
tell me
to stop being so afraid,
to let go,
finally learn to play the game
the one with zero blame
reminded that fear isn't what makes me strong
or pretending there's nothing wrong
it's how my character tackles
this unyielding fucked up shit that hackles
how I ultimately can decide
gather myself up to really try
scream out a healthy
guttural warrior's cry
make up my own mind
to no longer hide
and with purposeful
authority and pride
know what it is like
to know myself inside
finally
finding comfort
to be free
by being
only
me.

Running projection at that porn theater in Times Square
Remember those years in the tiny walk up
You were writing erotica hoping to get discovered
I was working on my doctorate in sin
Running projection at that porn theater in Times Square
That was dingy NYC
Long before organic
When Holly was working the Lincoln Tunnel entrance
You could get a quick suck for five bucks
Nobody cared if she had too many teeth
or if she was really a she
Life was less complicated back then
Holly bought mouthwash in industrial quantities
Hygiene on the fly still important
A woman still needs some dignity
If any money was left over at the end of the month
We went to the Scorpion bar on 14th between B and C
No hipsters back then
Just real people in dollar store clothes
Happy for a few snorts and a couple of rot gut chasers
There's no happy ending
Continuance is all you get
It was a soiled life
We got older and then got real jobs
Then we got better clothes
The mac and cheese life rolled over
Looking back it was romantic in a dime store way
We laughed at our poverty
Grateful to have had the moment
A love affair in sordid NYC
We didn't overdose
That was good

The most human poem I've ever read, telling of both our ugliness and our beauty, yet even our dark side is written with nobility.

Thank you so much for your comments.
Lou Reed had a way of telling NYC stories. I tried to honor him with my own based on his music...

Just a quick note, it was BlueVelvete’s poem that was selected as the winner of this month’s competition, there must have been an error when the trophy was awarded. I’ve sent a message to Webmiss to let her know. I apologize for the confusion!
Congratulations, Blue!
