Local Color

Boston bleeds -
A sanguine sacrifice:
Bullet-ridden Boys in Blue
And Bandana-clad Bloods
Salaciously spill
Bright blood on pavement

Sweet ambrosia, suffering
Brevity of the abbotoir basin
Bovine brains and bullets
Brush with brass, deadly

Stilled-life portraits
Boxcar bums with banjo-blisters
Beleaguered, brave, and bellicose
Benevolent blades bequeath
Sacred, solemn sleep

'B'eing

From Boston to Montana,
wearing a bright blue bandana
in a boxcar of bovine I rode
strumming my benevolent banjo
with brevity, gave a hand-show
during a brush with this noisy cargo

MY BROTHER ATTENDED COLLEGE IN BOSTON, MY DAD GREW UP IN BOVINE COUNTRY

A beatnik
Recites blues
In a boxcar
Bound for Indiana

---

A hippie
Spins to music
Wearing a bright
Tie-dyed bandana

---

A yuppie
Buys a dinner ticket
Brush with
Benevolent celebrity

---

A hipster
Plays a banjo
While commenting
On life's sad brevity

Busy Bees Blissfully Brave Brilliant Blossoms By Bait & Bail

But
seriously!
Best believe me,
I was full o’ beans,
Boston-born
basically
a generation ago
out of the blue,
to a teeny bikini
& a bandana rama,
known
for its brevity
and bright colors
of sunny golds
and marmalades
‘round the neck
(hit the deck!)
with
midnight moons
rising,
cowboys
riding
buckaroo bovine
who
brush themselves
against
certain death,
take deep breaths,
on horned beasts
with names
like:
“Boxcar Bertha”,
“Banjo Kazoo”,
And the
star
of
the show,
a must-see
with no horns,
if you can believe:
“Benevolent”!

The Liar

With brevity he’d brush his hair and then wear a blue bandana,
He claimed he was from Boston but played the banjo all too well,
So even though he seemed a benevolent fella, he wasn’t too bright,
When we knew he lived in a boxcar with bovine and really smelled.

Simple Pleasures

On the border of a little town near Boston, a busker sleeps in an abandoned boxcar,
a bunker from the brutality of the busy streets; the bane of his bitter existence.

With a banjo by his side, a bottle of booze in his hand, and a dirty, blue bandana tightly wrapped around his head, he dreams of better days, when these blissful moments were experienced in far less brevity; Long before a brush stroke of bad luck painted his skies from blue to grey.

Under the bright moonlight, he dreams of times when life was simple.
Of benevolent sunrises over lush, green bovine fields...
The smell of bacon cooking...
And coffee brewing at breakfast time...
A warm embrace...
A familiar face...
A comfortable place...
Of the simple pleasures that make life worth living.

And there in that boxcar, under the light of the moon, he felt happiness again, if only for a moment.

Benevolent boxcars
Glow bright
Against a New Orleans moon
I remember you playing your banjo
Singing, “I’ll be there soon”
I took that to mean
You’d move from Boston
My temptress in blue
I took that to mean
I’d be there with you
So as the moon hangs low
Over bovine-lined fields
I walk ten miles
With a vengeance to wield
My bandanna hangs limply
From a chloroform hand
I’m coming my dear,
to be your man
I’ll be the one to brush
that loose hair from your face,
your only concern
in the entire human race.
