Long Poems About Inequality
#inequality
Long poems about inequality. 300 words or more, most recently published poems first.
From each side
Throw the gauntlet down
In the past for it was pistols at dawn
Face it down without a blink
Advesary in any debating ring
The written word just second hand
For neurons need the id's commands
And we knew its boundaries
The debate that's so two faced
Don't throw all your toys out at once
When we use a language to cause abrupt
Speek our minds to those corrupt
Hear the sharp intake of breath
Know that they have no ducks back
To rebuff not bite the tongue
When witty repost gives you the...

Damn Right I'm Cold
There are plenty of us running around
Popping out children
Littering the ground
But I like the green lining my pocket
And hits to my womanhood
There's not much stock in it
I like the fact that I'm not defined by my kid
I like that the lack of them means my decisions
Aren't judged and controlled just cause I have children
I like not being put it my place like the olden
For now like always
Children are just healthcare issues for us
We're disregarded if no husband lifts us up

War Path - Sunny Daze
They once had Auction and Negro Sale signs, just up ahead
Niggers were sold dirt cheap and were going home bled
Branded them slaves, even made ‘em dig their own grave
Southern folk, had bragging’ rights, but not all brave
Did a whole lot more, than work the plantation cotton fields
History dare not repeat, that of which, the past conceals
They were once leanin’ towards a war path
They were paid, if they worked on da railway
They were laid, if they worked on da good day
They were beat, if they were to ever disobey ...

This Is My Blues
Workin’ as a young one, during da cotton pickin’ days.
Tuning my ears into, my older siblings, gospel ways.
Smokin’ a whole lotta dope, got me to here.
Drinking from early mornings on, got me to there.
Playing some slow guitar chords, gave me the blues.
Sleeping at night, always awakening, to more bad news.
This is my blues.
Purely undiluted.
Then distilled on down.
To its true purity.
I got a kind hearted women, no imitation...

Demonstrated skills of trickery and deceit
Makes these many enemy's hard to defeat, police stations, board rooms to the heart of the street, this is cartel behaviour it's what lies beneath. Cartels of the streets they ain't unique, they are just more publicised than the corporate tax cheats, criminal fraternities uninformed and walking beats, high level murder and money laundering, no guns just balance sheets.
Street criminality, mindless brutality, from the plantations to the streets, this shit is eating up families. Poppy fields to crack Dens, around the world and back...

From Cradle To Grave
Nations standards of civilisation
Are based on its treatment of unfortunates.
Its sense of community responsibility is based
On its willingness to share and resolve community issues.
Health care should not be reliant on how much money you have.
With the best of treatments only available to the wealthy.
As a double through the knee amputee, I cannot afford to get prosthetics
That are only available to the wealthy therefore I am forever unable to walk,
Despite not being a criminal this is my punishment, my curse and
The guilt of this nation...

Modes of Being ( after Denise Levertov )
March wipes
its muddy boots.
Spring advances:
basilicas of tulip, forget me nots, blue—
the color of black birds.
The park bench facing east of an empty sun—
tangerine skirt, blouse akimbo
amid purple limbs.
Near the Northern Triangle
a migrant woman is raped
by an indigenous guide
as her child sleeps.
The park yawns
its saffron teeth emerge;
a nocturnal atmosphere awakens—
its stridulatory organs rub in unison ...
its muddy boots.

Do you know my name?
Do you know my name?
You know my name the stripper in the club that's
working on a master's for that promotion at my day job
so I can get that big raise, so I can quit this and live normally.
You know my name the cabbie that picks you up and who you refuse to tip
that is working three jobs to put my kids through college and pay for my wife's
cancer treatments because she's too sick to work.
You know my name the waitress at the greasy spoon you oogle and grab
trying to save up enough money to move out and be the...

Consumerism 2
(Listening to Sampha - Treasure (Beautiful Boy Soundtrack) aww shit now
Long gone are the days
of 1 report signing off
on your citizen’s worthiness
or just paying your bills on time; alone
to bolster that credit score
now you have to buy your way in
they want to see
revolving credit accounts,
open credit cards,
“Do you want to open account with us?”
I just looked at her…
I guess she was like
Let me leave this ignorant bitch alone ...
