Sapphire Asterisms
All the late nights
With the pink skies
We lived under buzzing lights
Measured lines on a pole
Made a second home
The future was clear
They’re always here
Even when love disappears
Our hearts stuck on the ceiling
I’ll never forget this feeling
Time doesn’t heal
It only steals
A black ice surprise
Collapse of flashing lights
Magic thrown away
Burned out smoke
Left for waste
Fireworks are all the same
Now the empty driveway screams
Echos all your old dreams ...

The Mask
In hazy blue midnight
Like a storm left to loom
In spite of starlight
Now erased just to bloom
Fall is a season bitter
With Winter full of greed
Often we're lost in Summer
Romanticized by Spring
It was only in her shadow
Where I found myself again
Frigid, frail and hollow
Sinking further as a man
Unto a life spent lonely
Dwelling in the past
You want to hug and hold me
But will only love the mask.

Real Friends Don't Ruin Your Life
Treated me like a bomb
you wanted to see explode...
well, if you wanted crazy
you could've just said so
I'm sweet till you make me cry
docile till you start telling lies
and I'm only good to those
who don't try to find
the smallest of flaws
to use and expose

no one there to watch me
like some criminal in their home

It's not about anything
Just paint and cold pressed paper

Worked on it for awhile
It was hard to photograph
A lot of moving parts someone said
I make art because it's a calling
Unlike a love poem
That's expression too
I slept 8 hours last night
Unheard of in my nucleus
Not sure what to do with the energy
Perhaps another painting
A trip to buy greeting cards
My mentor and cousin were born on the same day
Same year
Both are Vietnam veterans
One was in intelligence, the other...

Crawling all up in my brain
Pieces that shadow behind
Faint echo of crashing train
Equal from which I can't hide
Drifting on I will atone
Like stars that reflect at night
Flares up mangled nerve and bone
As Cancer cold chokes me tight
Coursing through blackened and feeds
Ashes remaining contrived
Writhing this teasing then flees
Less once more I have survived.
