To My Grandmother
Throughout the past couple of months, I’ve been watching my grandmother’s health fluctuate vastly. I enter her room and don’t know whether to expect a natural or forced smile. I’ve seen tears roll down her face as she tries to remain strong, knowing her time is limited. The pain has become simply unbearable. I find myself weak in these moments. Something so important to me but far outside of my ability to help.
So what do you do?
Do you sit back and watch as the woman who has shown you nothing but love since birth die? Do you acknowledge the reality and make the most...

Treasured Scents
Lit match ignites incense stick
sandalwood aroma
wafts over my face
fond and mysterious
childhood memory incites
What was the prevalent fragrance
In my grandparents' home?
In the sacred smoke
a mystery made known
when mixed with the scent-remembrance
of coffee percolating in a pot
inviting boyish morning glee
contemplating what days adventure might be
Or paired with ginger snaps
baking in the oven
I remember grandma’s smile
as I bit into the warm, spicy cookie
secret ingredient, lots of love’n ...

Effects / affects
Yesterday, I rec’d a medium sized Postal Box of a fair weight, weighted.
My Mom’s treasure, or the treasures my Sister thought, I’d keep ~
Mostly old photos of me, my siblings……..family.
Marine Corps Depot 10 year and 20 year pins – her awards for her Civil Service.
From the photos she saved, I could tell she was well loved.
She used to tell me how she (bragged) tell the Colonel about her son who
Joined the US Air Force.
Many a photo, I NEVER KNEW.
Also, photos of an ex and her kids. I also...

Pontiac Safari: First Owner
Department of Motor Vehicles
tells grandpa
“ You're no longer fit to drive”
and to grandma they advise
“Get rid of your vehicle m’am”
so gramps won't be tempted
to go for a spin
for old time's sake
and endanger his and other's lives
a devastating decision she had to make
grandad spent his career
working in auto manufacturing
his gold, Pontiac station wagon,
that he meticulously maintained,
was the last vestige of his livelihood
to lose it was emasculating

Talk About Bad Timing
Could you please do me a favor?
I wish I could right now, Mark.
Could you get off me and dressed?
One guess. Your parents are home. Right?

The Wrinkles of Time
Like a star from the past she regaled us with stories
A lesson in each and every one of them
With love and patience she guided us
Even when we didn’t want to listen or understand
But after so many laps around the sun
I began to appreciate more of what she done
For all the sacrifices she made
All the sufferings she must’ve endured
I saw more of her light
Now at ninety-five
She only whispers
A fog has come over memory
Hands that once worked so hard
Show the wrinkles of time
Her faces lights up

simple perfection

I felt so beautifully alive
blanket over shoulders
sitting criss-cross applesauce
beneath a diamond-studded velvet sky
as smoke drifted upward in twisting tendrils
flames dancing wild attendance
marshmallows burning to a delicious crisp
sizzling on the end of sharpened sticks
& my father's laughter
as we all gathered around the campfire
mom's embarrassed giggles
teased out of her habitual cautious demeanor
{only daddy held that power}
it signaled freedom
a moment slipped outside...

Me, Part One: Beginnings
I remember
exactly
nothing.
Which is to be expected, of course.
I have no recollection
of screaming my way into existence
on a snowy night.
All I know is that I arrived
just in time
for my dad to make it to hockey –
or, so legend has it.
But here are the few facts I have gleaned:
Three homes in about two years –
young family in transition.
A feisty older brother
And an even older sister
with a newly broken leg in a cast upon my arrival.
She says mom couldn’t/wouldn’t get out of bed...
exactly
nothing.

Sister, I'm a Poet
Tenderly, you cradled me through
every skin-storm and hurricane
No school-bell bully
ever laid their finger on me
I watched your children weep
swept their tears into paper-cups
When we held Dad’s hand for the final time
dementia ‘s shotgun held the final bullets
bang! bang! we were all dead ,
blood on our slippers was merely truths
every skin-storm and hurricane
No school-bell bully
ever laid their finger on me
I watched your children weep
swept their tears into paper-cups
When we held Dad’s hand for the final time
dementia ‘s shotgun held the final bullets
bang! bang! we were all dead ,

Lincoln opened the basement door.
Both he and Khloe saw his mom.
She was naked with Seth.
Mom smiled at both Khloe and Lincoln.
She invited them while Seth humped her.

A New Way Of Saying The Engagement Is Off
Grant drove to San Francisco.
He went there to visit Cousin Nicole.
But he got surprised instead.
Grant walked into Nicole's apartment.
He saw her naked with some guy.
That guy isn't her fiancé.
He was humping her hard.
That's before he spotted Grant looking shocked.
He asked Nicole "Who's that?"
She looked up at Grant.
Nicole's working at Mitchell Brothers O'Farrell theatre.
Her lover's name is Zachary.
Both he and Helena are Nicole's co-workers.
Helena ran off to Cancun with Edward.
