Dreams II
I dreamt again of the mountain
Broodingly sombre against darkening sky
I felt the fear within my heart
For at the peak, stands the portal to the underworld
I awoke in tears because I knew
A family member would die soon
We buried my mother within that month
The girl awoke at the break of dawn
Run to her mother and told her dream
Of a huge crocodile coming into her room
The mother looked at her and smile
For soon she might have grandchildren
She patted her hair and thought of veils
The girl married her love that year
The sickly elderly woman woke
To the silent night
Smile and knew she would get well soon
For she dreamed she gave birth
Depicting her illness that has gone away
Birth by potions Shaman made
Next day she finished a bowl of porridge
The man avoided the wife that day
Silent did he go away
He dreamed she had two heads
Knew she was unfaithful to him
Avoiding her screams of denials
He left for a village far away
That year the woman married her lover
Dreams are thoughts of what may come
Sent by reflections from the nether realms
Uninhibited thoughts seep into the inner mind
Words unsaid with pictures showed
Where mortal coils are discarded for a while
Allow thoughts unhampered through form
Messages from where they are to where we are

Dreams are so symbolic and convey messages in such a spiritual way. I have had so many revelations through dreams..........

Grace -- I think dreams foretell the future,
in a slightly different way.
I think that,without even analyzing them , or remembering them,they represent
what we know, what we sense, what we predict-
in other words --
Our inner and outer stimuli, and reactions, enmesh. In dreams they are all esperienced
simultaneously.....the wholistic basis of our decisions gifted to us in Surreal form.

This was one very intense and well-written poem, Grace. Brilliantly done, in the extreme! Ah, the power of dreams... what to say about it?
Dreams can covey our innermost fears, even ones we do not know we possess, and they can also reveal unto us our innermost hopes, even those we bury the deepest, sometimes unknowingly. They tell us much about ourselves, and through them I believe we can also glimpse the distant past, even unto past lives we have lived... and the future too, either near or distant. I had one such very frightening experience with a certain dream.
A year before my mother died, I kept having a recurring dream of her walking into the cemetary up the street from our house. In the dream I followed her and the ground opened up to reveal stairs going down into a dark cavern set into the earth. I followed my mother into that cavern, and watched as she got into a boat that took her over an underground river that I knew was the River Styx in the Underworld. I tried to follow her still further, but a voice told me to turn around and when I did so I saw Jesus' face weeping and holding a golden chalice into which His tears fell. I was frightened by that vision and then in the dream I turned around and got into the boat, which had returned to the shore. The boat took me along a terrible tunnel in which the dead of countless centuries taunted me, telling me to go back because I was still alive and should not enter the realm of the dead while still living. An angel then pulled me out of the boat, and I saw that the angel was my Guardian Angel, who was weeping tears of blood. I woke up from the dream.
When my mother died a year later, she was buried in that very cemetary I had seen her enter in my dream. And then the meaning of that terrible, horrible dream was made clear to me. It was a forewarning of her death. The meaning of the tears of blood became clear too, when I found out that my mother had died from Diabetes, which she inherited through her blood (genetics) from her father, who died if it himself several years after she did. So the symbolism of those tears made perfect sense at last. So I know all too well, the power (blessing and curse) that dreams can carry for the dreamer. While some dreams can be trivial, simple fancies, fantasies, or things we experience during the course of the day, other dreams... like that one I had... are far more than that, and hold power to be respected and never deliberately sought out. Unless one feels they are prepared to see more than they wish to.
I am glad to see others here understand this truth about the darker side of dreams, and I am even more glad that you shared your poem with us Grace. I love all your poetry! Who knew that this one would make for such deep and meaningful discussion? Lol.
