No One is an Island
Some think that poetry and politics
should always shun each other inversely,
and like oil and water, never mix,
since so much now is done so adversely;
it's a red flag when folks don't like the fuss,
and sure, it sucks to battle for your bread,
but when "me first" bitch Trumps the rest of us
then it's time for bards to be widely read
and more comparisons be brought to bear
so justice balances for one and all
in more untampered courtrooms everywhere
to see more high and mighty break and fall,
and then the fuss free chicken shits will see,
collective effort...nurtures liberty.

Oh yes!
Seems like that gets little mentioned in anthology intros.
Might he have been an MP had he lived?

Art, in all its forms, has always been political. It's a simple form of protest, both individual and universal.

Right?
At least it can be. The ones who don't take a stand on at least some issues are the ones that weird me out.
How can you just do nature poems, for example, and nothing else?
Change it up and really work that brain!

I once worked for a small business owner who refused to talk politics because he worried about losing customers, which is a valid enough reason, but you just know that he must have an opinion anyway, and he ought to be able to express it without retaliation to his family's livelihood.
Most likely from people with an age level IQ.
You're right about politics being a defacto intelligence test, which makes it all the more important to keep front and center as a way to screen the people we have to deal with 😃

Very cool. I guess political satires are kinda the go to rather than expressing one's ideas with poetry about political matters

I suspect that when most folks think of poetry they think of someone focused on lovey dovey Hallmark stuff, when in reality a poem can be about anything and everything, and the more so the better.
