I need my Star

I called out as a star came shooting by.
Please hear me out, I yelled.
She smiled and said, Why?

I need a friend. I need a guide. I said.
I need an ear to meld
my heart. On her lap to rest my head.

Stars don't do that, you poor poor lad.
We listen to lovers in the night.
But during the day we burn and hide.

Among the thousands I have met.
I have chosen the brightest in the sky.
An angel to help my soul to rest.

I grieve for you. I'm not going to lie.
But you have to choose yourself
how to live and how to die.

What choice do I have when my life,
is written among your kind
to be riddled with pain and strife?

I know. I've seen your sign.
Some sisters even dimmed their lights.
I've heard many cry for you and whine.

Will my destiny ever to be thrashed around
as I smile when inside, tears I cry?
To endure hardship in silence without a sound?

This is the choice some men must stand.
To wither away so that others may strive.
You'll always be among that wretched band.

Will you stay with me each day and every night?
Even when there is little hope.
I need to keep reminded of my lost light.

I need a friend. I need my star. I need you
to light the path I dread to take each day.
An oracle, maybe a nurse to mend my scars.

You'll burn from our love ever so bright
if I come to you every single night.
You'll set the world ablaze in words alight.

A risk I am willing to take to finally lie
with you eternally among the stars.
A wish I hope you'd grant a day before I die.
