Image for the poem a call to arms

a call to arms

"That hurt we embrace becomes joy.
Call it to your arms where it can change."―Rumi

waste not the day:
too brief the hour
for vigilance to sleep,
lest darkness slay,
and sleep devour,
the virtues that you keep.

do not postpone
small acts of love,
or words of kind renown;
leave not undone
what you can prove,
nor let your tongue shut down

where lips must weave
poetic dreams
for someone desperate.
may those who grieve
your freshing streams
make undisconsolate.

to self alone
you dare not live,
or else, you dare not die!
when you are gone,
the love you give
shall dark days dulcify.
