Last Day of School
I still remember that day like it was just yesterday
He was very excited to attend kindergarten
And there he sat on in the floor with his new classmates
With a bright smile when I snapped a quick picture
He was so little
Friday morning I left home in hurry to run my errands
When later I realized it was his last day of high school
His day had started off without any pomp and circumstance
But he was ready to celebrate with his friends and classmates
I snapped a picture of us in the car when I picked him up
The little boy I dropped off all those years ago is now a man
The years flew by like winged clocks across the skies
But I have many verses and photographs to accompany the memories
When he was little we called him Xander Pie
We could hug him and kiss him and eat those chubby cheeks
Then he grew up to have a dark witty sense of humor like mom and dad
But we still kiss him and hug him like he’s still that little one
Even though he’s now a man
