The Clock and The Ferryman
What price will i pay
As the Ferryman rows
He accepts my coin
my purse feels light
i am apportioned
my number of minutes
How did i use them
i won’t be spared
The greatest equalizer
Row Ferryman, row
The clock advances
The ticking seems louder
Am i afraid?
Only, for whom i’ve offended

Dear R,
Yes. 😉 God or the devil, you can decide. I go either way on some days. (I’m not kidding anybody, it’s mostly the devil). Thank you so much for your thoughtful and very kind comment. Thank you for the RL, I’m very flattered. 😊

Ferrying is not devil nor God he's merely the deliverer. I enjoyed this, i will pass with many haunting, my memories are constantly a flood of ghosts, but I alone nest answer my misdeeds. The scars that course my body are testimony to the ignorance of man.

I love your take on this. Quite right, the poor ferryman is just doing a job. Answering for my misdeeds…I’m not really looking forward to that😬
Thank you so much for the RL and your wonderful insights. I’m very grateful to you. H🌷

I don't fear the devil because I am the devil dressed in layman's clothes.
Kind of a haunting write Honoria. I've often wondered about you.
What's hidden behind your shining exterior ???
No change back from the devil ...
High Quality write.

I don’t know that you’re the devil but you sure do have the devilish wit😈
I’ll just continue to leave you wondering but not before another thank you for the lovely comment and RL. I’m super jazzed. H🌷

Dear J,
Only time will tell is just about right for what the retribution cost will be. Of course we’ll have to factor in a 38% inflation rate and let’s not forget the 8% tax on top of that. 😡
But it does give pause for thought what the after life might hold for us…let’s shoot the works and live it up until then.😊 thank you very much for your thoughtful comment and RL add. I’m tickled pink and so flattered. H🌷

Reminds me of the Pearly gates, and judgement day. In this instance the ferryman can be delivering you to Nirvana or Hades; or to the judge himself for decree of your fate. An interesting journey and wonder if the vistas along the way will provide clues.
On this trip, there is only one class. No 1st class or vagabond class. Your number of minutes, intriguing. What does this time provide: self-reflection, repentance, etc?
An interesting poem, making me think.

If I’ve made you think then my job here is done.😉 I can hear the ferryman coming to collect. I’m going to make a break for it before he catches me.
I loved your insight about only being one class. No 1st class or steerage on this trip. We all ride the same passenger carriage on this one. Thank you kindly for your wonderful comment. H🌷

What an odd job, being that ferryman. It's not his place to judge, but everyone he sees is on a journey that they either welcome or fear. Does he ever get to stay on the other side? I think when I meet him I'll have a lot of questions. Or maybe I'll be out of questions by then...
Interesting, introspective write. I'm always happy when I see you in my feed! You never disappoint.

Dear K,
Oh the stories he could tell. If only he wasn’t mute. I’m never sure with whom he might be in cahoots. If only I was a good guesser 😏
I have a lot of questions to ask myself which is why I’m pretty sure I haven’t been collected to head upwards. And of course, hell is afraid I’ll take over so here I remain. Purgatory. 😡
Thank you for the thoughtful and lovely comment. X

Well the ferryman will take us all at some point. But the devil and god? That’s up to the individual. I like your raw writes. They show things about you while still keeping you cloaked. A rare talent, in my opinion.

Don't forget, dear one, I control that river. We will distract the ferryman from your deliverance for a very long time. Feed him words, he can't row and read.
Good to see you posting something! It's always rewarding. I always smile.
Thank you! Whenever you comment on my stuff, I wanna say "takes one to know one"! So thank you for this write. It's all a trade to me.

I will always constantly nudge you!
I will be so far up your ass ---
Oh hell, that doesn't sound right.
I mean, I would, do that, if needed.
But then,
We'd get famous for that, if we videotape it.
Make millions of dollars.
Forget all about poetry
Our souls would shrink
We'd question
where it all took a wrong turn
Well, avenue
of approach.
We'd cut off the tattoos
Of each other's names
That we had gotten
In a mad rush of euphoria and adrenaline.
We'd agree to end all communication
We'd go on Dr Phil
Not knowing he invited both of us
He's an asshole!
We'd team up against him
We'd write a book together about it
There would be a movie
We'd make more millions
You'd marry me
For my half
Then divorce me
For the house in the Caribbean, too
I'd find a cabin
In the middle of no where
And write sad poetry
And you'd see me
And laugh
Ha, ha, ha!
So, therefore, as of now...
No more nudging.
It identifies
as a push.
Got it?

You can’t redefine our relationship at this point. Your role is the nudger in perpetuity, and mine is the nudgee. That’s how this plays out. And I’m keeping the house we bought together in Hawaii. You can have the Caribbean one. 😂
Re: Re. The Clock and The Ferryman

Deal. I'm horrible at changes. I've been to the Caribbean at least.
Yaknow, it's 2022, it's perfectly acceptable for me to identify as a nudgie for a damn minute!
(I can't do it. That whole "change" thing. Nope.)
We must redefine this, for 2023. Get back to basics. Rediscover our beginnings.
Alas, I am the prodder. You as the proddie, must accept these terms, lest I cry fowl on this most heralded bird day.
(Why is my mouth watering?)

Not sure what's in the air, but there's a lot of this death and reflection going on lately.
Your wrote something that was very relatable at the moment for me, but it was so classic and strong.
Great work.

Dear W,
I agree, the reflection on the end for a lot of us has been rampant and I couldn’t tell you why either. But if I do any more retail therapy to assuage my own preoccupation with the subject I’ll be in the poor house.
Thank you for your lovely compliment and gracious personal insight. It’s not such a lonely journey.

We all wonder if we will have enough to get across I think.
Or perhaps we will be stuck here, perhaps that's often worse.
The ferry man will always take your last coin.
As you remember your life and wonder where you will go.
All of the mistakes, the kindness and the love too.
How did we use the minutes which pass so quickly.
We cannot be spared from that from our past.
The clock always advances, so how do we use that time.
Our offenses will be waiting on the other side to judge us.
But the Elysian fields lie on the other side of Hades.
You just need to be stubborn and persistent. ;)
Another absolute gem, like you Honoria. X
