It's never "just" a query, is it? These are serious thoughts, and it seems to me that they come from a desire to still travel together....
Sometimes it just takes a little longer for one to catch up. No need to backtrack, but stay on your path and keep shining your own (amazing!) light back for the other to follow.

“To The End of The Road” – Till death do us part.

This is bittersweet – Like two trees in a forest. If they both are the same height, at some point one will experience shade while the other is in the sun and vice versa. But most of the time they share day and night. However, if one tree is taller than its adjacent tree, it always has the sun, whereas the shorter can be cast in the shade. The shorter tree remains part of the forest, but its growth is stunted.  Longer analogy than I was thinking.

A sacrifice is being made, and hopefully it is for the greater good, but this poem makes me think you are being short changed. Like your name, you have honor.

I'm not in the habit of writing  my interpretations of another's poem, in fact I never done anything like this before. Except I heard these lines read to me [by your voice?] and they wouldn't leave until I wrote them down. I am also quite adept at translating big words into smaller one as will be most apparent [call me bilingual]  So w/o further ado

A journey of a lifetime
an adventure yet to begin.

The good times, always welcome.
The bad times, a test strength and courage

Why when one heart forges onward
and another remains behind?-

our paths once converges, then slits in two
As a duo, was this only a part of our trek?

My thoughts implode from self-chatter.
My heart bleeds from self-doubt.

A long dark tunnel unexpected
perhaps we'll see illumination at the end.

Or just maybe,  
the skies of overcast remain,
where in hazy grey we see just silhouettes

If that’s all the illumination I’m to be given-
I will walk within your shadow.

Somehow it seems the end of the road is always in sight.
And yet the road still goes on and on.
Perhaps it's a very difficult journey much of the time.
But it sure is an adventure of a lifetime...
So many scenic overlooks that are just so beautiful.
And so many rest stops for when you just have to take a break.
The good times are so amazing but also hard to find sometimes.
Bad times certainly have a way of making you break down.
Sometimes you feel left behind on the side of the road.
One heart forging onward while the other is hitchhiking.
Trying to catch up but perhaps it seems impossible.
Not knowing where life will take you next.
It seems the mind always has so much to say, too much.
And the heart listens intently to all that self doubt.
When you are a duo, it feels like that will last a lifetime.
But so often there are potholes and bumps in the road.
Maybe they even total the car making it so hard to repair.
It seems you will never make it out of the long dark tunnel.
However there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
And even if you have to walk, you will make it there.
There will be blue skies again, the storm clouds will clear.
I suppose what I am trying to say...

I think someone is lucky to walk in your shadow.
Because it means they get to be close to you.
And don't ever underestimate how much that's worth.
Don't let yourself be left on the side of the road.
Because you should always be carried forward.
So perhaps there is a detour or a delay...
But you will make it through it.
And whatever lies ahead can be so beautiful.
No matter what happens you will always be amazing.
So don't let anyone keep you from moving forward.
Or from having the appreciation and love you deserve.

I do agree there is an honor to walking beside someone. In light or shadow the connection can be what you make of it. It’s the dreadful feeling of being left behind on the side of the road that diminishes me and I think therein lies the underlying meaning behind the poem. Shedding that negativity is the key- some days successful and others, well, could use improvement. The good news, I’ll keep trying😊

It's a relatable piece, making us reflect on certain aspects of life, past and present. How much can we compromise knowing it's never a perfect road, but one that tests our hearts and spirits.

I though of imploding thoughts and being buried beneath that self-doubt.  All I could feel is wanting to find where the light comes and start digging my way to it.
However, your ending lines made me feel like I'd rather be buried in my self-doubt than walk in anyone's shadow.

...
Which one is the heart that bleeds from self-doubt?

And when one emerges from the dark tunnel,
and walks into enough light to cast a shadow,
are not both moving in each other's orbits?
Is there no hope for both to join in each other's glow?

For me, the heart that remains immobile bleeds the most because the one that forged onward left.

While I’m merging from that long tunnel might allow each to move in each others orbits they are merely existing in the sake space.

All that suggested I firmly believe they can join together again and take joy in each others glow. But, will they…
