47 Monkeys
Slithering tails with
The strength of 47 Monkeys
Surround your throat
Aching for a choke
Bringing a kaleidoscope
Of colors when eyes close
It can be heaven or hell
Surviving our ancient spell
Clans of silent rumbles
Forcing families of tears
Aztec Mexico born curse
Siphoned into your ears
Dripping abandonment fears
Cohabiting together on
Fragile cracked ruins
From our insidious weight
Who’ll never stray
We’re here to stay
Insane grips locked around an
Imprisoned heart and trapped brain
Escaping all the outside pain
With the strength of 47 Monkeys

Hi Tim!
Dude - I was unsure about posting. LOL
Thanks for the encouragement. I soo need it
when I get out of my comfort zone. Gotta keep this one around.
I think it would make a great horror film if I ever decide to
write one. LOL
Thanks for the RL love buddy and your encouraging comment!!!

Hi LilD
Thank you. I wanted to create something new and original like
a heavy curse hanging on your back. Made me think of monkeys. LOL
Looking at some Aztec ruins in Mexico for some inspiration.

Not exactly on subject, but relevant to this write of yours;
When two foreigners that don't speak the same language meet, there is a need for a translator. And hopefully that translator knows how and when to temper the dialog, and not translate everything verbatim. It can literally prevent war.
They speak three languages. Two spoken and one of insight.
"Insidious weight" -awesome add! I can't help but think of a pale, bloated tourist smirking at the "poor natives". Who at any time, could rip their heads off and take their hot dog. Civilized world; Gain things, lose wisdom.
Fortunately, writers protect the ignorant of the world. Good to see you doing your part!

Hey Styx,
So true. Reading between the lines can be tricky.
Preventing a war should always come first.
Translating isn't always so cut and dry. Talk about
pressure. LOL
My mom was a translator at school - a parent liaison.
She had to get involved translating in Spanish. She would come home emotionally exhausted and a lot of stuff she couldn't repeat.
Took a toll on her mentally. Finally retired but she did help a lot of people in our school.
Thanks for your snaps on this write. Might rearrange a few lines here and there. Still playing with it.
hahaha - Off with their heads!! Roll them down the temple!!!
Wait - save the hot dog for dinner!!
Too funny

Hey PW,
Thank you. Trying out different subject matter.
A little darker for me but it's pretty fun. Just going where the mind
takes you in writing. Never know where you will end up til you're finished.
No I didn't cut my hair. LOL
I have it in a bun.
When younger though - I used to grow it our and donate to
Locks of Love all the time. My hair grows pretty fast.

I thought you may have been talking about COVID for a while & then it seemed to drift towards ancient Mexico (however did they lose so much land, right?). May you find the strength! The art of the Aztecs looks fantastic, btw!

Hey Billy:)
It's the month of Halloween and trying out darker material for
a moment. Just expanding in my writing for a minute. LOL
Love all of that Aztec stuff. All of the ruins - which I'm sure
have a lot of ghosts hanging around. heheheh
Just thought I would try and create a curse or two.
No biggie. LOL

Ok, that'd be great. I went to Austin once but only to the Greyhound terminal. I stayed overnight at the hotel opposite, The Ramada, for one night only.

I'm really digging the hauntingly creepy almost horror type feel. I am a huge horror fan and love the way you get the hair on the back of my neck to stand up a bit.... A telltale sign of really cool and immersive written eeriness!

Wow, those are surely some pretty scary monkeys! This great poem could work as a representation of an obsession, or maybe mental illness. It's fantastic even if I'm way off. Well done!

Monkeys are kinda creepy to me. LOL
Obsession and metal illness go hand in hand don't ya think?
Was trying to create my own curse in a way. Conjuring
up some monkey business. hahaha

Hi Adelphine!
Well, the curse worked! I've always thought of monkeys as funny animals, not the ones in your poem, though, those are definitely creepy LOL!

When you go in new and uncharted direction the miracle of dark poetry is born like a star deep in the galaxy. You write like an artist whose brush takes the reader into exquisitely different realms like the fire of the big bang when all we know came into being. There is nothing more invigorating than following you into these dark alleys of art and poetry. I am thrilled by what you find.

Hi John,
It was Halloween and wanted to write about curses. Right now
there is so much unoriginal content in the media. How many Halloween remakes can you make? Or Friday the 13th?
Wanted to try something different and thought of monkeys
and curses.
Thanks for checking this out and the RL buddy!!
