I know Hunger

The memories of crying with my brother
No... Sobbing into my mother's lap
She was barely past being a teenager
I remember just how scared she was
And her rocking us back and forth
Repeating broken apologies through her own tears
Whispering that it'll be okay in the morning
There have been so many stretches of my life
Where food was not a given but a luxury
A hundred dollars a month doesn't feed anyone
And my family used to poach fish from the river
A bag of potatoes can't feed a lot of mouths
There are hungry kids in your community
Maybe if we all just did a little it'd fix some of this
Food banks don't need a lot to feed people
You don't have to go to a grocery store
Don't have to go through your own pantry
Hell, most have online donations
The world is full of hunger and it's going to get bad
