White Cat Caught in a Snowstorm

...like a white cat caught in snowstorm
those spectres remain unseen
floating like black balloons
whispering to me

 air seems thick, as factories
 belch out smoke and steam
while we gaze into the kettle
the ink has dried it seems

...hear the march of the underground
they're marching in the streets
rifles rised ready to fire, marionettes
       dangling from strings

white cat stalks juicy rats
camouflaged in the snow
sniper waits on his target
pouncing on his prey

yellow eyes dart against
a drift of snow, his prey
does not know, never
scurry in front of snow banks
when a white cat is on the prowl

...like white cat caught in a snowstorm
   those spectres remain unseen
   floating off like black balloons

whispering to me

Author's Note
A friend of mine on another Poetry sharing site, gave me the inspiration to write this steampunk poem that centers around the metaphor of being like a White Cat Caught In a Snowstorm...I heard that and I thought Hmmm...I could do something really cool with a Victorian/Dystopian setting...a white cat being caught in a snowstorm could mean A sniper hiding behind a blind...this poem does have a fantasy steampunk feel to it as well I feel
