Last First Day (Part I)
The time flew by and I’m wondering where, how and why
But the boy is all grown up or if I can still call him a boy
Today was his last first day of school, as a senior
And all I could advise him was “make it worth and enjoy”
His momma has always taken a first day of school picture
Ever since he was a tiny guy in his little uniform
As the years passed the clothes and hair styles changed
And right before our very eyes we could see him transform
On his first day of high school I told him “just watch…
The time will go by fast though now it seems far way”
And sure enough it grew wings and just took off
Into distant of memories captured in stills of old days
Perhaps it’s my own nostalgia or my own recollections
But the young man, a poet in progress writes his own odes
As I watch him in my rearview mirror, I see a reflection
My baby boy is now a man as he prepares to take his roads
