the rise and fall of evil
between my labour and my leisure
fleecing my neighbour for my pleasure
my hands conspire to plot a strife
whereby i make a knot of life
expectantly the sun each morning
illuminates the new day dawning
but on earth’s canvas, i am bent
with evil ink its hopes to dent
a heart of stone cleaves fast my bosom
bereft of any trace of wisdom
‘tis my delight to watch men squirm
for i am but an abject worm
i am the right hand of the devil
author of conflict for my revel
the bitterer i make your fate
the happier i resonate
i cannot ply my trade much longer
for i’m not getting any younger
there’s too much love around these days
no one cares for my evil craze
i am defeated by men’s kindness
benevolence gives me night blindness
when words of faith invade my path
i am consumed by my own wrath
alas, how shall i face the sunshine
that nullifies the ills i’ve made mine
my evil days have served no purpose
i lie here, slain by hope’s grand surplus

You must be a Biblical wizard to make the connection with C.S. Lewis' missiological fiction, The Screwtape Letters. Whereas Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood may not have featured in this poem, the perspective of satanic beings communing about their episodes is something to sober our minds to the great controversy between good and evil.
Thanks for your kindness in paying tribute to my pen and its mission on these pages. I know you are no less on the mission field for the Master.

If only I could rhyme. ;) I always love the pattern of your words; oh how you appease my OCD with your perfectly sculpted visuals. It is impossible for me to imagine such an evil depicted in you, but you so brilliantly pen the evil nonetheless. Still, I do know we all struggle with the darkness. We see it everywhere... But hopefully we learn from it and can replace it with kindness and love. We can gain wisdom and overcome our personal evil. And in the end see that we did more good than bad and that people look at us with love in their eyes rather than contempt.

I must hasten to tell you that I am NOT the persona of the poem; I do not see myself as the evil one portrayed. My aim was to personify the evil of the world by letting it look at itself through its own eyes, by letting it see its own abhorrence, and by letting it see its own defeat as good triumphs in the great controversy between good and evil.
Thank you for feeling uncomfortable about the possibility of my grappling with nefarious thoughts. Your reluctance honours me. I do believe all the evil of the world will come to a momentous end when the kingdoms of this world crumble under the power of the Kingdom of God.

I will definitely have to give that a try! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I would never think you were the persona in the poem so there is no concern there. :) You took a unique and brilliant approach to carrying some very important messages. I love it!
