hope secure

Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves
the impossible.
 —Helen Keller

tho but a worm am i
in deep soil,
i shall be measured by
my strides
to find the light of skies
—dark death foil;
therein my secret guise
abides!

           tho i am but a seed
            asleep here,
            my roots shall learn to heed,
            one day,
            the calling of the birds;
            clean and clear
            the whisper of kind words
            at play.

                        tho broken is my will
                        at evening,
                        i hope, beyond the kill,
                        to soar,
                        when morning comes again
                        with daring,
                        and rids me of my pain
                        once more.

                                    tho sleep i in this grave,
                                    death's silence
                                    is not all that i have:
                                    earth's floor
                                    shall yield my body free
                                    from violence,
                                    immortal life to me
                                    secure.
