Found Your Obituary Online
They gave your ashes to the sea
I whispered goodbye into the salt air
still wondering why you didn't tell me
it came back

I am touched deeply by this poem, Paperstain. You captured so well the pain of sudden, unexpected loss.

Thank you, GW, for letting me know that you this touched you. It's hard to do some things justice, and for some reason, trying to squeeze it out of 31 syllables (the challenge) just felt right for this, for now, even though it's been a while.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this. The memory isn't recent, but it still comes back and smacks me sometimes like it is. And, I think I'll always wonder.

My father's ashes were scattered in the sea by our hometown. I have asked for the same. This touched me in a personal way.

I found it more comforting than I expected to, when I read it had been done and the first time I looked over the water after.
My father mentioned, offhandedly, a while ago, that he could just be buried at sea. Writing this, remembering, makes me realize I should have a talk with him to see if that's what his wishes are.
Thank you for sharing why this was personal for you. I appreciate that so much.

Thank you, as always, for commenting. There's really no good way to find out someone has died, is there? This was a particularly tough one, for a number of reasons. Appreciate you letting me know you felt it. Hugs back at ya.
