Lunacy

She once lit up the quiet sky,
Ever shining in her brilliance;
I, enamored by her mystic beauty
And her incredible resilience.

With a supernovae smile—
A vibrant glow upon her face,
She was the brightest of all the stars,
Kissed softly by the lips of grace.

I watched her come and go,
Like the ebb and flow of the ocean tide;
As the growing undercurrent,
Eroded at her sands of time.

Piece by piece she drifted away,
To a place I could no longer reach;
Until she faded from that misty bay,
Someplace beyond this lonely beach.

Some nights I hear her echo, still,
Far across the ocean blue—
Perhaps she's still out there, somewhere,
Beyond the dark side of the moon.

Author's Note
This one is really personal for me. It's dedicated to my grandmother and my dad's only sister, who both suffered from schizophrenia and were eventually institutionized until they passed... Though it might be relatable to those who have family members suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's as well. In some ways, it's also about my mother, who I've seemingly lost to drug abuse.
