Brick Mosaic

Why do you text me?
Are you really that lonely?
What is it about us that we still do this
Back and forth over the years
A dance so fruitless
it creates deserts where we step
Rainforests where our tears fall
You are my poison, my medicine
I chose someone else
But still return those texts
There's nothing between us
But a vast history that'd fill libraries
We've been reduced to just memes past twelve
Empty silences between joking insults
I could swim endlessly in those eyes
But stand firmly on the sunflowers of his
Never to be together, Pulling up the bricks
That kept me imprisoned to you
Treading lovely on his path to mental stability
There's no pain with him like with you
I don't feel broken in his eyes
But I don't feel like a Mosaic like with you
A cool calmness in comparison to a fire
I pick the calm, the unquestionable love of his arms
You burn my fragility and
Leave me picking up the ashen pieces
We have grown, adults, responsibilities
Love confessions when they no longer apply
Are like pins into my poor puppet heart
To know that you once loved and let me go
Forces my hand to do the same
Close that pandoras box
Pull out the thread and see my lips shut
I must Kill it to be happy
I have to do it.
I just wish my dreams would get with the program.
