Why is it that
Eleanor Roosevelt
With low self esteem
Was well liked
Loved by millions
Looked upon
As a wise woman
Admiration laid
Upon her
Accolades galore
It did not matter
That she thought
Lowly of herself
A lovely woman
In her own right
Of course being
Married to
Frankliin D Roosevelt
Gave a boost
She was not
Shunned, shamed
Was not made
To feel little
Or unattractive...
So why...
When everyday
Normal people
Like me
With extremely
Low self-esteem
Carries a stigma
Somehow I am
Less attractive
Feel shamed
Of myself
Often ridiculed
For low self esteem
If Eleanor Roosevelt
Could have
Low self esteem
Then why can't I?

My self esteem is ridiculously low much of the time. I watched a documentary about Eleanor Roosevelt and about her low self esteem. I got to thinking, if she can have low self esteem, then what can't I.

It’s a paradox.
My impression of you is a beautiful, vibrant, passionate woman who writes beautiful and extraordinary poetry, the exact opposite.
How can Eleanor Roosevelt have low self esteem when she is so adored? Is it because she regards her own assessment of her self worth as more important than the opinion of others? But isn’t that a trait of high esteem people to downplay the opinion of others?
It’s a paradox.

I know the feeling. Look at how much positive feedback I get on my page, yet I still consider much of my work to be mediocre. We are our own worst critics, Elsie.
