Story Poem, Nr.19 — Jack the Buffalo
There was a macho buffalo
with awesome tackle down below,
balls the size of fullest moons
plus muscles pumped to make one swoon
and buffo-Jack enhanced his brand
with lots of studded one-night-stands.
The lady buffalos were fast
to learn his interest didn’t last
and since they were for cert no fools
they hash-me-tooed some different rules
refused his playboy attitude
dismissing it as rude and crude.
The buffalo, severely peeved
decided in a huff to leave …
uh…oh, this choice was not so great
determining the hand of fate —
a hunter spied the handsome beast
and all the neighbours had a feast.
But here’s the rub, without mistakes
how does one learn the real from fake?
One way to look at things I guess
requires a shift in consciousness
where life continues past the grave
in unexpected ‘mazing ways
so holy transformations might
become creation’s final right.
If true then Buffo’s one mistake
transformed him into sacred steak
and up in heaven looking back
he’s finally a happy Jack.

BRAVO!!! Standing ovation! The first thing I thought about was Aesop's Fables, the one about the four oxen who could fight off a lion by standing back to back so the lion would encounter their horns. Then one day they argued, and separated into different parts of the field in a huff. Then the lion has his day! The moral: United we stand; divided we fall.
This is an absolute delight to read and listen to - and albeit somewhat mature, I still think I will let my grandprecious ( who is almost 10 ) listen to it. Though he will blush! But still, we just read that fable yesterday! So how apropos!
Josh, this transforms death from a typically morbid and emotional subject to a delightful tale!

Thank you for the interesting and enthusiastic feedback.
Actually I started out writing this while in Switzerland, attempting to emulate Franz Hohler's poetry for children (Franz Hohler, now in his 70s, is Switzerland's equivalent to Roald Dahl - he's hugely famous - for children's & adult's stories but only one has ever been translated into English. (Meanwhile Veronika & I are doing joint translations of his work and have just submitted our first translation poem ... but I digress).
So this 'Buffalo' poem started out for children (with a 'fable' mindset) but moved as I was writing it more into the adult category. However, I have others in process which stick more in the children's category which hopefully will be forthcoming on the DUP 'test-bed' - and they're much shorter too. RL also much appreciated.

Dear J,
I copycat everything great Ahavati said. Your response was fantastic on how it morphed from a child’s tale to a more mature theme but it is an absolute delight to hear. You have a wonderful speaking voice that also engages the reader/listener. This was a great way to get my day started. Good luck for the comp. awesome experience! H🌷

I've become a lifelong FAN of Your ink (and Spoken Word)
and this spill has me thinking of steak (i've not gone food shopping yet and have been munching on beans and veggies for the past 7 days)
I love the descending twist from the innocent tale to a more darker end.

Your cheeky writes are always a joy amongst the heavier subjects we often delve into, or I do anyways, whilst on site. What a way to go for the buffalo, but we all end up on a dinner plate, nature wastes nothing. Cheers brother.

Thank you Daniel. You're right -- Nature wastes nothing. Possibly seeing life as a series of 'transformations' (big and small) helps put some of life's difficulties into perspective.
All the best for 2020, Josh.

Tackle. Huh. You learn something new every day. I didn't learn anything else except maybe that word gets around when you are playing the field. And that buffalo gals aren't into horny guys no matter how well hung they are.

Hi Johnny, thanks for the read, and Magnetic RL. I'm not sure where I learned this use of the word 'tackle' - 1960s boarding school perhaps. Anyway, all the best for 2020. Cheers, Josh.

Thankyou for the read and RL, NuBorn. Looks likeit was a win-win-win outcome - my little bit to try and change the cultural norm of the winner-loser zero-sum game our world seems locked into. All the best for 2020, Cheers, Josh.
