Brexit Hot-Pot (a Tillanelle)
When Grandma made a cup of tea
she always warmed the old chipped pot
then poured the water boiling hot
when cannibals cooked the missionary
they lit a fire beneath the pot
and boiled their dinner piping hot
when papers failed the citizenry
as truth in news went all to pot
the page-3 girls were extra hot
when hippies live their own decree
drop out the system, smoke some pot
they find their lifestyle cool and hot
when bombs are dropped upon the free
the infrastructure shot to pot
the war-talk pumps the people hot
when rulers disconnect, don’t see
instead of cooling things a lot
they 'Brexit' people into shock
then pour more water, boiling hot.

Hi Sky_dancer, welcome to DUP.
Thank you for you enthusiastic response, and the RL, and following me too. Much appreciated. I hope you enjoy your travels through the world of DUP. :))

Fine work, Josh. I'm still ignorant about Brexit but I enjoyed this. I like the variations you use on the word "pot." Just a detail, though. Excellent write from beginning to end.

Not sure if I've already noted this to you:

It is Stephen Fry's 10-min youtube video on Brexit - best info you'll find.
(In U.K Stephen Fry is a popular writer & actor)

I believe you already pointed this out to me Josh, but I spaced out as usual. I'll give this one a look.

I always thought that "Brexit" sounded more like a grain and granola cereal, than a political thing--cheers for making me smile!

Thank you ML for visiting. It would indeed be a lot less stressful for all of us in U.K/Europe if 'Brexit' was indeed only a granola ... :))

I strangely equate Brexit with the Trump administration. I kept waiting for the pot to call the kettle black!
Well done, Josh.

Thank you, Ahavati. 'pot calling the kettle black' ... ach ... I missed a good chance there. Never mind, there's always tomorrow (we trust) and a new poem in the offing.

Eeeeee..... Brexit.
Us Europeans are chomping at the bit now. I say we go to the pub, have a pint and wait for this whole think to blow over. Or Jeremy Corbyn to overthrow May. I mean we’ve only got 6 more Brexit secretaries before Christmas now! lol
I really liked the quirky nature of the poem. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Miss_Sub; can't wait for a decent pint of English beer - but could I afford it after paying €1 over here?
I like 'quirky' but it's a rare thing for me to achieve - so glad you see like it that way. Thank you for the RL too.

Thank you AB. Given senior politicians' lives, I guess it's pretty difficult not to disconnect; but I do know that in general they view 'the masses' as 'the children' whilst they are the only 'adults' in the room. An unnecessarily condescending, if not contemptuous, attitude.

Re: Re. Brexit Hot-Pot
Jeremy Corbyn, because of his support for the Stop The War Coalition. The war industry is behind most of our troubles (not least creating the migration crisis, with its Brexit implications) and it appears few senior politicians have the guts to seriously question it. I'm sure there are other MPs who take a similar principled stand but whose voices are not heard.

It's a very sad state of affairs .. reminds me very much of what is happening in the great USofA .... and other states, countries as well ... a very excellent poem and statement

Hello Josh ... love this piece...great word-play
in which to deliver your message
and best of all...
your original creation in your own particular style...
a man after me own heart,...
I have never cared for working
in someone else's style...
not sculpture... not painting...not writing
I am an independent artist, and stubbornly
I wish to make the whole thing, from start to finish...myself... Ely

Thank you Ely, I guess poetry is one relatively cheap hobby where one has control over the process from start to finish. Thank you for the RL too.

Fuck knows where Brexit is heading? Answers on a postcard please. The Tories desire to divide & conquer (divide the working classes) is smashing them back in their ugly & bloated faces. Good. Long may it continue. The rise of the 'little englander' is resurfacing. Sad fucks.

Divide-and-rule ... has worked for millennia, and unfortunately still does. "Follow the money" answers most questions - someone gains from it all - but not your average punter. Thanks for reading, and the RL.

Bought and sold for Tory gold that we’ll never see...
I’ve stopped following the whole thing now - not sure if it’s through boredom or frustration. Sooner or later it’s got to be ‘over’ right...
Much enjoyed this Josh :)

Thank you Sophie - I keep reading 'the news' but not sure why, I'm none the wiser. Glad you liked it - a bit of light relief I hope amidst the shenanigans.
