Image for the poem foolish

foolish

the sun set on our love
the last I love you;
hung thick in the air between us
my heart spoke foolishly

I knew you no longer felt the same
it was more of a desperate plea
than a sentiment of affection

I wanted to call back time
make it freeze on our days in the sun
days where we were in love

it flowed easily between us
you knew my curves and valleys
worshipped at my peaks

I understood your shady pines
prickly undertones of your personality
there I rest my soul

where no one dare tread. save me
you were my safe haven
in your stoic silence
I found my salvation

today I cry for days past
I can't reclaim them
they slip through my hands
just dust blown away by the same silence

in the quiet dawn
vodka sunrises numb
the quiet din of a mourner
who's lost her way
