The Way We Are

I spent some time just wandering
Wondering who we are
And how we came to be the way we have

Seems like time is stacked against us
From the very start
You might not have a chance against the house

Things have happened to change us
That’s true about us all
It’s how we handle change that tells us what we are

From the time you’re in it
You have to try to win it
It’s going to take everything we are

You’ve got to stand united
Even when you’re frightened
Just to make it to the next demand upon your soul

And so we wander from fight to fight
Trying to keep our love in sight
Making plans we know we’ll never keep

I guess we’re just the same
As everybody else
Trying to keep our heads above the tide

But we try
And we've stayed just who we are
We never gave in even when we lost our way

Though time will stand against us
We will stand united
We always have before

We have both feet upon the floor
