Broken Shackles

Years before we start to accept who we are.
We wait for those whose opinions mattered.
They say don’t stray too far away from the lines.
People had a lot to say.
Daggers slice through our soul.
Punches come in from every direction.
Leaving us tattered, torn, scarred for life.

We have been broken down. Shattered to pieces.
We hurt, we bleed, we cry a river.
We hide away from who we truly are inside.
We contain, control, and restrict ourselves from breaking free.
We both know it. We were looking to belong. To fit in.

Will we ever be?
Will people accept the oddity that we are?
Will they ever be able to understand the person we are meant to be?
We might be different, weird, and peculiar.

We are unique.

So we welcome all the beatings.
Cause now, we’ve come to realize that there is no better recognition,
Than the one we genuinely give to ourselves.
Embracing everything that makes us who we are.
We are flawed, we are scarred, we ain’t perfect.
But we love fiercely, we live boldly, and we shine brightly.

We are worthy.

So you say “ Come at me, and then you will see”.
