Unrequited

My tears are carrion
shredded and seeping into parched earth
to feed the palest lilies
while this cluster of memories
rushes forth to taunt

For years I pushed you away
damning an ocean's regret
stripped of pride
through lifetimes sailing nowhere,
a sickly fool now caught
in wonderings tangled by traps of ego

And was it for comfort
you bled
when silences mocked your footsteps
knowing I'd never look back
on even a path so lonely--
where without forgiveness
it ends
