My Biggest Fear

My Biggest Fear

Rest in peace Nigga….
But not too deep Nigga…..
Cuz' in these streets, if you sleep, that's yo' life Nigga

I remember when Cisco was the fad
Hangin' out on corners drinking 40's from the bag
But now in my neighborhood and yours,
Niggas done turned into crackheads, and cocaine whores
Robbin' liquor stores for lute to buy nickel sacks and dime bags
And those colorful rags they sport….leaving no money for child support
They say in the system they are caught

So they take another sip of gin and juice because the high they get is heavenly
Then follow that with a heroin chaser intravenously

The whole shit just frightens me,
If when my little boy is growing up that's all he sees…… I mean
I've taught him his ABC's and his 1,2,3's and that years ago slaves died in trees……for freedom
I've taught him how to read and write and be proud of his life,
To believe in God and say his prayers at night….But what do I teach him now?????
To play basketball dribble and shoot (Allen Iverson shoots; scores and the 76ers win!!!!)……..OR
Just to shoot!

Now after all these years I cry fearful tears as I watch his peers.
Just the other day one of his little friends got sprayed
My son cried as in the ground he was laid
I tried to console him, told him don't be afraid,,,,But
All he said was……

Rest in peace Nigga…
But not too deep Nigga…
Cuz' in these streets, I you sleep, that's yo' life Nigga
