[2017] Destroy All Monsters
Woke up this morning feeling as though
I'd write a monsterpiece
today
lub
lub dub
Brewed myself a cup of mornin' Joe
Greeting sun, pushed curtains
away
lub
lub dub
On the water of my beachfront home
---a troubling roil of bubbling foam
lub dub
lub dub lub
Mouth ajar at what couldn't ever possibly
be described in any poem
lub dub
LUB DUB LUB
Up from the depths, some kind of monster
likes of which I'd never ever again see
This thing that should not be
but was
because!
lub dub
LUB DUB LUB
lub dub
LUB DUB LUB
Created in a lab
a creature that could only be
classified as pre-fab
in cryptozoology;
hybrid of personality
stitched together on a morgue slab
mother of all monsters
meant to cause
havoc and mayhem
Coming for you all
It's coming for them
Blazing red
One ... two ...
Oh, my god!
Is that a fifth head
peaking out from the side?
A King Ghidorah multiplied
breathing streams of fire;
a high rise of dread
whose only desire
is to be fed a heaping
TV dinner of nuclear wasted space

LUB dub LUB dub LUB dub LUB dub
Crushing everything underfoot in its path
Feel the heat of its sub atomic wrath!
Leaving behind depressions
greater than Sylvia Plath
I shudder at the thought of the math
required by Bill Nye the Science Guy
to calculate the creature's mass
I mean, just look at the size of that ass!

Smacked Rodan upside his prehistoric beak
Gave Gorosaurus a massive titty twisting tweak
Drawing every behemoth worldwide
to its echo-location like Mothras to a flame

LUB DUBBA DUB! Monsters in an earthen tub!
Well done! First, I'm a Godzilla fan of olden yore! I literally expected Ken Watanabe's mouth to keep moving in the latest when he said, "GODZILLA!" I know mine did! LOL!
I love the use of the heartbeats! They set the rhythm and intensity, akin to watching a horror movie!
The cool, steady beat upon waking and throughout daily routine, the acceleration upon seeing the water boiling right out your front door...
The palpitations are like a crescendo of seeing an indescribable monster that actually describes an indescribable monster perfectly! Reaction! Imagine hearing the heartbeat in thriller movies ( oh oh I have a vid! ); it's all in the face and the pulse ( music not withstanding ). It all has to work together, biology, expression, reaction, for it to truly be effective. In this case, poetry. The right words; the correct spaces; the pauses and emphasis. I can almost hear theme music in this!
You write this as though watching a film and bring the reader right in with you by offering them popcorn and a front row seat. I think the little details, like manufactured in a lab (vs. a natural creation born of instinct ) is essential to the story, because it's programmed to destroy.
The Plath and Nye reference are brilliant, and demonstrate sheer volume and depth that poets can easily relate to ( well, those familiar with them ).

Godzilla VS Hedorah ( rebranded for American audiences as The Smog Monster ) is my all time favorite. I watched the original Japanese version on Hulu last year. Unfortunately, high def TVs and digital streaming take a lot of suspension of belief out of the special effects.
If only a modern cgi version was made that didn't suck.
The American 2014 version was awful. Many scenes were way too dark and Godzilla was hardly in it. The 2004 version with Mathew Broderick was much better, except Godzilla was made to looked way too much like an animal. I felt very sad when they killed "her".
I have yet to see "Shin Godzilla" which is a 2016 Tokyo reboot using cgi. Normally, sci-fi is Magnetron's department, but he already has a poem with the same name.
Bill Nye was very critical of Godzilla, claiming such a massive creature would be crushed by its own weight. I couldn't resist the reference.
