For You

burst of fireworks in the distant
the clinks of wine glass
before opulent tables
shouts of joy and gurgles of merriment
were behind closed doors
to me

a soggy pillow
a box of unknown tablets
many interesting hues
before me vying attention with my laptop
staring eyes fingers talking
a vacuum, a void filled my brain
my heart was winding down

you kept me enthralled in your words
you kept me within your thoughts' embrace
you didn't let me go until the dawn came
your understanding placed my sanity centred
you and one other held my hands
through the strength of your care

for that day a beloved had flown away
happy in the belly of the silver bird
to one who once abandoned him
to hold her and match their circled fingers
and I became a liquid puddle
as useless as dishwater

Kym Kym, you saved my life
those years ago
I will always remember you.
