Motherland
There are those
who remain loyal
to the Motherland.
Heirs of tradition,
a jaw's carved bone
and twisted curvature,
a Wisdom tooth curled
hard around a Truth
decaying in the gums
of a modern world.
Those who remain
sow ancient furrows of
duty, honor, and respect
before dying toothless
themselves.

Re. Motherland
I'd have liked to have felt
some connection with the land,
- as I do with the past -
but perhaps I'm a little too
rootless at heart...

noble are they who cling to the old ways
in the face of a merciless future.
rich in tradition...

With so many cultures taking their trade secrets to the grave, I agree, John. It takes strength and resolve to stay and carry on traditions.

There are those who are rooted as a Sakura tree, and those who flow like water. I am the latter; however, I yearn to return to the source of my being. Many may leave, but they don't forget.
Thank you for your time and lovely words. Hold down the fort for us.

Your poem stands beautifully in and of itself but the accompanying photo is gorgeous

I am often inspired by images that trigger something inside my heart, a familiar empathy that I somehow derive from the photographer, or in this case subject. Something wanting to be said, or remembered. Thank you, San Pedro.

what an amazing photo!!....and for me sage recognizes sage here...amazing simple truths as the modern way of living has contradicted this in so many ways yet wise and ancient peoples still continue living in simplicity and harmony without all the trappings of it, but with the things that really matter, a concept seemingly completely lost in the United States other than as an idea but no longer an action...thank you for resonating truth and reminding me once again of what truly matters.

Indeed, Michael. Tradition is being
Swallowed by modernism. Our
Children will never know, I'm afraid.
