The crab tree blooms

The crab tree blooms and white the flowers,
cold Mayday wind and cold the rain,
cowslips shelter in the lea, primrose too,
Malus their name, from the east they come
from whence our sun this Mayday morn.

Far across the seas to welcome Spring
this cold May Day when cold the rain.
cowslips shelter in the lea, primrose too.
Nettles no more crowding hedgerows,
the drone of bees ceased to silence.

Three bees searching,only three,no buzz
or  stings as when a boy,no docks today,
their cooling leaves quiet in the lane,
broad and green,no longer needed.
Still crab trees bloom and primrose too.
