Where Are Our O'Jays?

We will look past the charade
take off the filter of glasses
that only tell a part of the story

A day is given in which Doctor King is remembered
notice how it all goes down
political camps use his words to prop their side
ignore the few that relive his words
for humanity

For Doc was not JUST a dreamer who sat around all day
he was an activist in the best sense of the word
warned to keep quiet about a war in Asia
don't shake the tree and jeopardize civil rights
the field he operated on was about human rights
and his voice would not be an instrument
of political convenience

The grand USA has never taken to heart
King's plea for nonviolence
Obama "disciples" strutted around
rhetoric filled with the major foreign policy gem
"re-elect Barack he did what W. didn't and got Osama"
no doubt Osama was evil but having we been reduced
to only being patriotic about killing?

What happen to the bastion of democracy
the promise of the Peace Corps
destructive capability can be projected
not only all over the world but out to the solar system
and chillingly exported to places our citizens can't pronounce

Let us not forget the final cause of Doc's
the Poor People's Campaign
a focus attempting to restart the well intentioned
aims of President Johnson which were
derailed by Vietnam

The courage is so vividly lacking in politicians of today
any proposal that suggests bold action
is labeled socialist or communist and the like
okay to bailout entities with lobbyist
and "too big to fail" corporations
but food stamps of they can be cut
unemployment benefits? oh kiss them goodbye

There is class warfare going on and
the one percent is winning
while the masses go on believing
that unfettered capitalism solves all
the great lesson from Henry Ford
routinely ignored

So yeah I am now arguing with cool cat Bono
"Am I bugging you?" Well I do mean to bug ya
