A Bench Once Broken
I came upon a bench once broken
Ashamed beside the water’s swelling
Within these woods as softly spoken
A conversation quite compelling
Between the current and its shoreline
Unfretting of with whom they shared
It seems the creatures would not opine
Should I as well not be declared?
It struck me then that only drought
Would grant my voice a resonance
But there’d be none to hear me out
This bench my only audience
And so this bench still stands forsaken
I should not forget the invitation
Ashamed beside the water’s swelling
Within these woods as softly spoken
A conversation quite compelling
Between the current and its shoreline
Unfretting of with whom they shared
It seems the creatures would not opine
Should I as well not be declared?
It struck me then that only drought
Would grant my voice a resonance
But there’d be none to hear me out
This bench my only audience
And so this bench still stands forsaken
I should not forget the invitation
