The Elastic Band Still Sings

I would have written.            
The years passed between each line.            
           
Like my heart and you            
The ink would flow            
Coloured..          
Tear stained blue.            
           
My dreams got tied up with elastic bands            
Singing their way over hill and valley,      
Across county lines.            
Till sorted out,      
Pigeon holed away.            
Awaiting delivery.      
By warm gloved hands..            
           
A knock on the door.            
A letterbox flaps.            
Another bill to pay.            
No devine letters to sign..      
..To keep praying for.            
           
           
I would have written..            
           
My dreams like the tears,            
Dried over time,    
Over the years.
