Not coming back
She's not coming back,
I know that.
So why do my eyes
seem so hopeful
each time my phone rings?
Why do they search past
the person standing in front of me?
Even when there is no hope left,
I still hope.

Burning
The city is burning
and it reeks of ash
that whisper your name.
The city is burning,
everything crumbling to the ground
except your memory.
The city is burning
but I cannot get you to leave it
and I cannot leave without you.

Conspire
When I think of her
I find it difficult to believe
that the entire universe
had not conspired to bring her to life.
Between the most beautiful city of Paris
and the brightest galaxy, Andromeda,
is she.
Flowers bloom with her in sight,
tides crash for her,
and I live for her.
There is not a more magnificent reason
for it all to exist
than for the perfectly crafted being;
her.
I find it difficult to believe

Stars
I am captivated by the stars,
I observe them from afar
and wonder if my wishes
ever reach them.
But now I am in awe
for the void in my soul
has been filled
and my whispers have been heard.
The stars are flickering in my eyes
as I mouth a silent "thank you"
because the stars have brought me you,
the greatest star of all and I am in awe
She is half of my soul,
the part of me that breathes quite alright
and never stops dreaming.

Still
The brightest stars fall from the sky,
some explode and some burn out
because they are not perfect;
we are not perfect.
But despite everything,
through thick and thin,
through pill bottles and chips upon our shoulders,
despite you taking every part of me when you left,
I still love you.
And I have been living my life
waiting for you to realize
that you cannot live yours without me
but realizations do not work like that,
not for you and I.
But even knowing and accepting that,
is not enough to tear...

I have never been super religious
but when we were together,
I often found myself begging God,
the universe, or whatever was out there
for our love to be infinite
because I was certain your eyes
were the only pair I ever wanted to gaze into.
But now that you are gone,
I must beg to whoever can possibly hear me
for the strength to move on from you.

Two girls
Two girls
one with a heavy heart and so much sadness
and the other full of love and purity.
There was something about these girls,
the way one deserved the world
and the other wanting to give it to her.
Something about this image
breaks my heart.

has never felt more safe
but she's so afraid
because why must this moment with her
be the steadiest moment of her life?

The clouds growled,
star light hanging above our heads
as your eyes glimmered
in the moonlight.
I often caught myself
staring at your undeniable beauty

You say that you have no idea
what life you were meant to live

stolen kisses and secret rendezvous,
shooting stars and burning hearts.
You were built for sin and you know it.
Know that you are not wrong for it,
your hands are not stained
and you will not always dream of hellfire.
Your absolution lies in her hips
and there's clarity in her eyes,
it is not your fault that you were made for pink hearts.

or that I ever will
But I know that the chapter of you and I
has long passed us by
but I'll still whisper "Happy Birthday"
from a distance
because it's still your day
even though you left me.
So I'll say
"Happy Birthday, Sunshine"
as you blow out your candles hundreds of miles away from home
and I'll close my eyes with a wish of my own;
that you'll think of me in May.

Here I am once again
disappointed
when I don't have the right to be.
It was never your fault,
I'm not a plant for you to water.
But you are deep-rooted inside me
and that is my fault
for clinging to the bandages
you wrap around my heart.
So I'll do what I do best
clench my jaw
bear the hurt
and ignore the issues that validate why I need you.
